Postby freezy » Tue Jan 05, 2010 7:08 am

One of my gpu, console folding rigs is down

AN8 Ver?
opti 165 unclocked
2 x 512 ddr400 kingmax (maybe ddr500 cant tell I got it from mikeJ)
ocz500watt
thermaltake big typhoon
evga 9600gso

temps good when folding. volts look normal. graphics still fine

ps/2 (through kvm switch)mouse doesn't work anymore, usb ok

noisy chipset or northbridge fan

boot display says "FF"

otes fans not spinning, not seized move easily

constant siren, even during reboot
like voltage set wrong
I can clear cmos and it will go away right to the point when windows boots then it starts again.

event log says something about the hard drive error.

Are you going to tell me to try to boot without the drive

I used to get a siren when I had the ABIT EQ installed. So its like something loads with Windows to set the alarm off.

The most common failure on a running rig with no other issues is the FANS and the PSU.

Drop into the BIOS and see what alarms are set to go off there and disable them all. Then reenable one at a time to find if its linked.

In the OS, open ABIT EQ and check for fanspeeds and/or voltages.....

It doesn't look like it. Josh was going to add drivers and utilities, but I guess he hasn't got around to it.

The bad OTES fan could be causing the siren. Did you check U Guru and see if it had any red flags? Or did you uninstall it?

I've got loads of ugurus for AV8 - latest one I've got is 3103 - can try emailing if you want - or some other method? - can it be uploaded here somehow?

Good Luck

It appeared that the thermal paste had died. After 2.5 years of folding I took the cooler off and it was hard as a rock and only sticking to the cooler. It would be cool enough until it actually needed to work on something. 36c in bios is kinda warm if its only 16c in the room
