Fraps is a universal Windows application that can be used with games using DirectX or OpenGL graphic technology. In its current form Fraps performs many tasks and can best be described as:

Benchmarking Software - Show how many Frames Per Second (FPS) you are getting in a corner of your screen. Perform custom benchmarks and measure the frame rate between any two points. Save the statistics out to disk and use them for your own reviews and applications.

Screen Capture Software - Take a screenshot with the press of a key! There's no need to paste into a paint program every time you want a new shot. Your screen captures are automatically named and timestamped.

Realtime Video Capture Software - Have you ever wanted to record video while playing your favourite game? Come join the Machinima revolution! Throw away the VCR, forget about using a DV cam, game recording has never been this easy! Fraps can capture audio and video up to 2560x1600 with custom frame rates from 10 to 100 frames per second!

Fraps Version 2.9.8 Released

Postby honestjohn » Thu Jan 15, 2009 3:41 pm

http://www.fraps.com/news.php

Fraps 2.9 adds support for Vista and DirectX 10 games. With games starting to appear using DirectX 10 graphics we are happy to report that benchmarking, video capture, and screenshots are now all fully supported for these titles.

Vista also includes a rewritten audio subsystem. Fraps can take advantage of this and directly record a sound stream from the machine without requiring any support from the soundcard driver. This allows you to capture ingame audio even if you are using a USB headset or other audio device which does not normally support a "Stereo Mix" or "What U Hear" recording input.

Since the Vista Desktop Window Manager (DWM) runs through DirectX we have also added a new option to monitor the desktop under Vista. You can now take screenshots and record video from the desktop just like any other game or 3D application.

Fraps has just turned TEN, version 1.0 being released all the way back on August 25, 1999!

Looking back it's kind of hard to believe how much has changed since those early days of DirectX and 3D graphics. From simple beginnings we've seen the prevalence of real-time benchmarking, and the emergence of the amazing machinima community from video captured in-game.

A very special thank you to all who have helped Fraps evolve and improve over the last decade!

Re: Fraps 3.0.0

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Sat Nov 07, 2009 8:26 am

Changelog

3.0.0 - 5th Nov 2009
- DirectX 11 support
- Compatible with Windows 7 final (RTM) and RC1 versions
- Stereoscopic 3D Vision video capture up to 1920x1200 for D3D9 games
- Force lossless RGB option to always capture video in pure form
- Ability to mix both game sound and external input such as microphone (Vista/Win7 only)

all so i have found out a few thing i do not like about this new fraps as well.

1 there is now a new icon that will be in the task bar you cant get rid of. if you try it will close out fraps. it sit next to your fire fox or libraries folder icon sits at on the left hand side.

and thats beside the 1 that you can hide in the right side of the task bar. and now for the number 2 reason i do not like about this new fraps.

2 the frap video is now automatically broken up into 3.9gig video files which suck for me. cause window movie maker will not take more then 1 file at a time.

it will only import 1 frap video at a time which sucks because the point where the video breaks up at is where the good stuff happens at !!

so far i have sent in 3 report of complaint about this new version of there and that they need to fix ASAP!!

if anyone else think they need to fix it to send in a report to here > https://members2.fraps.com/contact/cont ... ptyltd.php

this is what i mean.

those frap video file should be 1 file but now they are all broke up into many automatically by fraps.

and i wish it didnt do that since i cant make a correct video of what i want to do for any game i play now.

if anyone has another way of shrinking the fraps video files down. can you link me to the program to use?

since window movie maker for win7 will not let you import no more then 1 video file at 1 time , unlike xp or vista which would allow you to import more then 1 fraps video file into window movie maker so you can combine more then 1 movie into 1 big movie.

3.1.0

-------------------------
FRAPS 3.1.0 RELEASE NOTES
-------------------------

The new Fraps release gives you the option to capture video with or without a locked framerate. If you have a fast machine you can now play your games at a higher speed than the target movie framerate. Fraps will automatically determine the best ratio supported by your hardware, ensuring the output video still remains smooth even if you are playing at higher speeds.

We are also aware that quite a few people with Intel i5/i7 configurations were having difficulty loading Fraps 3 on Windows 7. This issue has been fixed in the new release.

---------
CHANGELOG
---------

- Added option to capture videos with framerate locked or unlocked
- Fixed startup crash for some Intel i5/i7 configurations under Windows 7
- Minimum recording speed is now 1 fps to allow for time lapse recording
- Fixed vista desktop recording not capturing mouse cursor
- Fixed sound length for Vista/Win7 recordings
- Added large address support to 32-bit codec
