I had to roll back to the 185.85 drivers, the 190.xx's were just crap on a stick for me.

Good luck with your card, bro. There really could be a problem with the mainboard, due to that piece of shit Tagan. When a PSU goes out it usually takes a lot with it. When that Ultra X Connect I had went up in smoke, so did my beautiful AV8, the 6800GT, and a hard drive. How the CPU survived I don't know. Chris.

well i hope there isnt anything wrong with my ip35 since abit isnt around. cause im fk then it there is. but the tagan when it went out was wierd it sparked when i started my pc up and i have no clue as to why either and nether did tagan then again by there work i guess they wouldnt anyways.

well in while i will find out if it is my system or not for sure. but it is strange that my old 8800gtx runs way better then the 285 does!!

oh does anyone remember if the abit ip35 pro pci-e slots where 1.1 or 2.0 ? i can not find any info since over in evga forum someone mention it and i dont remember and i cant seem to find abit web site anymore.

thanks for the add info. and i did find more info on another foorum as well from a link that another poster posted.

but from what i understand from someone that i know that is using this same mobo with a gtx280 with no issue at all.

he told me he thinks it is my psu that is at the root of my problem. since it is a older psu with a multi 12v rail system which at that time they did not properly run all to well.

or distribute the amprage on the multi 12volt rails. and since this 285 is a power hungry beast. and the 8800gtx is not so much of 1 that is why it runs better on my system as to the 285 does not.

and that the pci-e 1.1 being the problem has nothing to do with it all. and right now i just tried another test with my XP raid disconnected and 1 optical with no power hook up to them.

and ran the same test spot as i did for the EVGA tech and the same thing happen. so i guess i will wait and see.. for what i did and hope it does not bit me in the ass cause i did something i hope i wont regret in doing and Blue knows what that is...

Re: not so happy owner of a GTX285 SC

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 3:26 pm

well sunday was a day i wish never happen now cause that friend his pc end up dieing. after i put my 285 in it and when it boot up well let say it was fine till i found out he had 2 OS. on 2 dif hard drives and after i found out that i was not on the drive he normally play on and that he only uses it to save stuff on.

i waited till after i was able to do stuff cause had to wait to get mouse control ya know, the razur need windows to install some drivers for it so after it did i was able to move around and such. so after that i was able to install a gfx driver cause actually after that is when i found out i was in the wrong drive and OS.

so i then click reboot and then got into bios so far so good ok. havent gotten to the nightmare yet. well i change the boot priority to the other hard drive no biggie ya know. since the other drive was a sata drive and the other was a ide drive. so i then hit F10 and then enter.

ok everything after this is the nightmare. it rebooted and when it did it didnt have the what OS you want to pick from screen pop up this time, ok weird. then it gets to the desk top and i can tell we are in the other hard drive cause there is other icon and no pic on the desk top.

of i get a windows pop up for new device found and asking what i want to do. ok i cant do nothing at this time cause i have no mouse or key board control or even lights on key board.

and the hard drive light is solid bright to and so i figure we can wait till it is done loading up. 20 to 30 minutes go by and nothing has change! nothing so i figure well windows must have locked up so i then push the pwoer button in to power it down.

now this is where you scream!

it never reboots or gets a monitor ever since! only thing that does come on are the fans and only the fans nothing else works!! im like WTF!!?? i figure well clear CMOS maybe that will fix it since it seem to work before i change the boot priority . well i tried to clear it around 30 or so times and still nothing.

welli then try and pull all the ram out and see if i get any thing from the mobo and i did some beeps so k that uis some what good news. so i then try with 1 stick our of 4 installed , nope that didnt work. well i then unplug the sata drive, nope still no go.

then i try and unplug the ied drive and see if the sata would work and nope. so far i have no monitor and no lights on mouse and key board. so i figure well maybe i try a different usb ports, nope didnt matter what port i tried still nothing so i try with no mouse or key board plug in still nothing.

so i think ok my 285 is now dead and i figure stick his 295 back in and see if all is well. Nope sure didnt fix nothing not a dam thing !! im like WTF it was just working fine and now i change the boot priority and it goes to hell!!

so i tell him i will call asus in the morning and find out if and what they will do with his striker 2 formula. and i will stick his hard drives in my case to make sure they where not locked up and are still good or not.

which i was able to to do and was able to check them both out. so atleast his drives are good and so is the info cause he wants his codwaw profile yet.

well the good news is that asus will do a cross ship with it and i got the form email to them and the friend did the 2day ship for $15 so some time this wk hopefully there will be a mobo here and i can do the swap.

abd get his rig back up abnd running.

now here is something i didnt know about this mobo. he has had nothing but trouble with it and it was doing what mine is doing which is stuttering and other stuff and it was not stable for him at all. and he does not over clock either so running a system at stock clocks and not stable is not good.

bad thing is he got a open box mobo from newegg which i told him to never do cause there warranty is 30days only from newegg after that you deal with the company that made it. well guess i got to mess with the company for him.

1 thing i will say asus they sure have change over the last 3 yrs since the last time i had to deal with them. even via email hell cause on sunday night i sent out a email to them and they replied on monday, thats a 1st and when i called them no monday i got a human on the 1st call!!

and then after talking to the rma guy he said well here is your rma number and your mobo qualify for cross ship so that was cool. i told him that i was working on a friends pc and all.

he sent the email to me and i filled out the form and the friend fill his section out and i emailed it back to them and right now we will be waiting for the rma to show up.

since he said i did everything there was to do and since i even tested the psu with my psu tester i have which works great BTW!! i think anyone that works on pc or has 1 should get 1 they are great and if you have a water cooled system. they really work out great for that to.

so in the end i hope it comes out good if not better.

well update to my friends system the rma mobo came in. i got it all wired up and then double check to make sure all is good.

then i plug in the power and then turn on the psu and then push the big button. pc booted up and i had a monitor and then bios screen, so i went threw it and made sure all was well there.

well it all looked good from there so i did the F10 and then Y for yes and then Enter to save and reboot.

well i got 2 bios halt errors 1 for cpu temp and the other for north bridge temp. oh great i get a mobo with a new dual problem just freaking great!! and he is not to happy either.

and i remind him" never ever buy a open box product from newegg ever again"

so back on the phone to asus tech support , good thing i got there number in my cell rofl! cause newqegg number for asus doesnt work!!

well there tech told me maybe there is a problem with his psu so i need to try another psu and see if it does it again.

well i told him that i dont have a psu big enough to run his 295. but i he does have a 8800gtx and i got a 700watt that would run that.

so he takes off to get that 8800gtx while i get the 700watt of mine all hooked up. i plug in the 8800gtx and then do the same thing but i go straight to the bios hardware monitor page and watch the temps from there.

well the dam cpu temp starts to climp up like it did before. from 32C and i shut it off at 40C all in less then a minute!!

so back on the phone, my cell phone that is and let them know same dam thing. so got a new rma and this is the 3rd one they tell me.

this is were its gets weird cause im like this is the 2nd 1 for him but they said well for the 1st mobo it is now the 3rd so it is free ship both ways. i tell friend to get the box 1st mobo came in from newegg.

low and behold it says on it RMA# so and so im like WTF! newegg did a rma on that mobo and sent you a rma mobo.

and a again i tell him this is just 1 of the reason why you dont buy open box!! from newegg!!

so now i have 2 mobo that need to go back and hes not happy and i am not either cause i got another pc taking up room on my work bench.

but now with my system the new psu seems to be working well so i sent out the MIR for $30 so i will have that some time maybe this yr rofl!! even though it will be a credit card.

so far only stalker soc has the stuttering in it and from another forum they said to try the 1.005 patch so i did just that. it seems to run a little better but it still does but i guess it could be the 285 so i may just call them and tell them i still have some issues yet but not as bad as before.

so maybe they will do another rma which i will do a cross ship as well. i have been thinking of trying my friends BFG295 out and see if my system could run it but im not sure if the psu will though.

well since i am still having problem with this card yet. i sent a email to the tech support dude. and this time i said if they dont send me a different gfx card i want my money back on it.

cause i am a very unhappy customer right now yet. and i have been very unhappy with this card since i got it from day 1.

so i have been looking if they do send me my money back or rma this 1 once more. i will try and sell it and take that money and sell the other corsair dominator ram i have.

the same stuff that is in my main rig. the 2 sticks of 2048mb of pc28500 ddr21066 5x5x5x16 with fan cooler. for like $80 to $90 plus ship since i see that newegg still sells it for $126 yet
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820145197
so it should sell good yet for that price and it still works cause i am using it right now since i have 8gigs which is 4 sticks of ram.if i had the cash i could get the color of can of who ever wanted the ram and change them for them for free if they bought the ram. since i didnt that before with the other ram cooler i had once before.

this is what i have for fans in it now in mine
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/ ... s_id=22092
they are 40mmx20mm fans and all i have to do is do some cutting and soldering and wire luming and then i am done takes about 1/3hr or so to do it. b

but if i do this is what i plan to do and get
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150443

what do yalls think of my choice?

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Wed Oct 07, 2009 10:27 pm

well i posted in EVGA forum under the advance RMA section and there top dude posted. since yesterday when i called i was waiting for 20 minutes and decided to let there call back do its work. well it did work so that when i decide to post on there forum.

in which Joe Darwin replied and stated that he will make sure some one will call me the next day to help me out. well that worked since the 1st dude basically gave up on me, well i thought he did since he hasn't called or email me back on any of my emails i sent out to him.

now this dude has me run some program that scans my system and makes a file for me to send back to him. which i did and sent it to him. he then replys back stating that all it shows that my system could use a defrag!!!!

im like WTF!! A Defrag!! come on the problems i have and this is the best they can come up with !! WTF!!! i am past p!$$ right now and i really rather have my money back. but he said they will send me another rma 285 sc again and it will be tested on the games i play and so on.

so now once they ship that to me i wont be using it i will ebay it. so im going to sell that new rma 285sc and getting the xfx 5870 and go that route. and say good bye to evga for good i think since this has left a real bad taste for me.
