IP35 PRO - E8600 LATEST OBSERVATIONS

Postby chuck4456 » Sat Jul 04, 2009 7:45 pm

Well.
I took a hiatus from all of this last Fall, as some of you know.
Never could could get an E8600 running on an IP35 PRO.
Well I found another IP35 PRO (a first run) and had a handful of BIOS chips so it appeared that it was time for further investigation.
In short.
Based on my experiences.
If it is an early revision IP35 PRO with a BIOS 10/11 chip (silver label) then a builder should be able to flash that chip with BIOS 18 and an E8600 should be operational with that board/chip combo.
It may be just the chip - I did not have a 2nd revision board available for that test, and the board that I tested with last year was also 2nd revision.
I flashed one BIOS 14-up chip and was able to operate the system with OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS. Any time that I reset the BIOS features, S&E the system would reboot and post 8.7.
Here's a link to some of the conclusions.

Anyway.
It's not etched in stone (by any means) but I would say that if any of you guys wanted to try an E8600 out on an IP35 PRO that it would be a safe bet that it would work if you used one of the original BIOS chips.
But don't buy a new E8600.
Believe me.
They are not worth 269 bucks.
Find a good pre - owned model for 100-150 bucks. Or less.

also nice for testing out other cpu on this great mobo though. since i would like to upgrade my cpu to a quad yet. even though my e6850 dual is still rocking yet. and thanks for the info :9:

Just before ABIT shut down they came out with a modded BETA BIOS 18 that (supposedly) ran the E8600 and had cleared up the glitches with the other E0 Stepping models.
Unfortunately it only worked on a few IP35 PRO motherboards and not all that well.
I think it was related to the particular BIOS chip more than anything else.
If you look back you will see that I didn't say that there was anything wrong with a BIOS 14-up chip. I said that I had no success using the 18 BIOS with the BIOS 14 chip.
This has just been an ongoing experiment for me being the ol' hard core ABIT fanatic that I am.
Honestly, I liked the way an E6850 performed much better than an E8600 on an IP35 PRO. Even though the E6850 has less cache, I had quicker latencies and bandwidths that were just as good as what I have achieved with an E8600. That could also have something to do with the flaky 18 BIOS but that E8600 wasn't so hot on my DFI or an ASUS P5Q E. As far as I'm concerned, the E8600 is a very overrated and overpriced CPU.
Official BIOS 17 will support most of the Quads.

So if you decide to move on to one of those, you are set.
And yes.
The IP35 PRO is one of the greatest motherboards that was ever made.
I've been on those since the beginning.
I bought the first IP35 PRO that NEWEGG ever sold and was one of the original 3 IP35 PRO system builders over at ABIT FORUMS.
That was a great year!

yeah when i got my IP35 pro it came with the 14 bios right on it so i was set. and yeah this e6850 chip has been rocking ever since i got it to. but yeah i do want to step into the land of quad cpu though. but i dont want to go away from my mobo though.

so the 17 bios is ok then, is thats what your saying? i know the 16 was flaky as they come. since i did tried it once and i didnt like the way you had to use a ps2 key board to get into bios or use a ps2 adapter while you use a usb key board when you ran the 16 bios.

which i found out that work, well what i mean to say is all you had to do is plug in a ps2/usb adapter into your ps2 port and not even use it. and then you would be able to use your usb key board to get into bios to change stuff. cause if you didnt you would not be able to if you remember that 1 thing it had going wrong with it.

but i never knew anything about this bios i might have to try and get that 1 so i would have it. would it be ok to install it even if i dont have a quad? or should i just dont worry about it yet?

Sure.
Lots of IP35 PRO builders are using it.
If you don't really have the bucks for a newer Quad, you could always go with a Q6600 G0. The best and most fun CPU I ever overclocked on an IP35 PRO was one of those.
I never liked BIOS 16 BTW.
A lot of builders swore by it but it wasn't so great if you ask me.
The 16B09 Beta was pretty good. Worked well with E8400 C0.

sorry for not getting back to ya. but it looks like i will be getting a Q6600 some time soon. not sure when but my clan leader is sending me his old cpu out of his old build. since he is on a i7 build now. so the bios17 is the 1 i need to install then you say?

if so i will DL it and get it installed so i can be ready for it. is there and difference or new stuff that the 17 has that the 14 doesnt have? just wondering .

i wish this mobo would have a better ram controller on it since i have 8gigs. it sure doesnt like anything higher on it any more. like when i had 4gig it would run on 1:1.25-1060 but now it will only run at 1:1.00-848 anything higher it wont boot no matter what i do to it. and that when i run @3.8ghz

but it seem since my 285 rma im going threw. my OC is no longer stable now very weird and i sure dont understand why either. after all this time @3.8ghz now OCCT errors out saying that cpu core1 to hot! spikes past 80C ! which it doesnt.

cause i watch rivatuner OSD and it doesnt go past 33C on core 1 the hole time. it move from 28c to 33c and core 2 stay solid @28c the whole time during the GPU test that is. which is what i am talking about on the test i am running. since i have to see if this card will past it in my system.

which it has and the over temp was like 83C max temp on the gpu which is very good. the other 285 ran like 89C even after i did the paste on it. which didnt even help the temps out at all. but now my cp is not stable at any over clock now.

i just dont under stand it now even my good old 3.6ghz is now unstable.i do know i need to change the coolant since it has been a 1 1/2yr since i did my H2O system. but that wont have this kind of effect on it though.

Not sure about the compatibility. You can download the Bios there --> http://www.abithelp.com/abit_downloads.php<-- just select it from the list.

Thx Chris for saving all the bios :9:
