I have a new project! (no, It's not a PC)

Talk about anything here

I have a new project! (no, It's not a PC)

Bought this little beast Sunday, they dropped it off this morning:
1969 Datsun 1600 pickup!

The only problem is gonna be getting it to run. The last owner decided it would be cool to drop in a later model engine from a 240SX:

There are some pieces missing: MAF sensor, radiator and exhaust pipes. But everything else is there including the wiring harness and computer for the engine.

Notice the 6 lug rims? There's disk brakes up front and a 3/4 ton differential! Custom balanced driveshaft, too. Extra racing tranny. Lots of extra, new parts, like gas shocks. Tires are good. No seats but the rest of the interior is there, even new door panels. I already found what will be my go-to-place for help: http://forums.nicoclub.com/zeromain. Gonna be fun! Chris.

Seem like some wires or cable is either loosen or have drop off. And is that sand or rust below the engine? Hmm.... the fastest and easiest way to get it to run is to change or major overhaul the engine? But then that might cost u a bomb

The dirt all over the ground is leaves and stuff from where the truck was sitting before. The wiring harness from the EFI computer isn't connected to the engine yet, Cas. And that engine is actually in very good shape. I've not had any responses from that other website I posted at :( No worries, I know I have a long way to go and I have all the time I need. Still have my 280Z. Chris.

O.K., update. The motor is a "ka24e" out of an early model Nissan 240SX (1989/ 1991) I decided to take off all the fuel injection crap and I'm gonna go find a manifold/ carb that fits the same cylinder head (the "40F" head was used in a lot of different Nissan engines) I really don't even want to try and mess with all the extra stuff that it would take to run a fuel injected motor in this truck. It's a lot more than just the wiring. Fuel pump, gas tank, etc. So on Sunday I'll take my tool bag to the local pull-it-yourself junk yard and go SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!!!! :yahoo:

But I also found this really sweet setup with Weber carbs:
Image

       Wow. But that costs more than twice what I paid for the whole truck. :o

Anyways, nap time, gotta work. See 'ya when I see 'ya! Chris.

Man Chris~

As the kids say "That RIDE IS DOPE!! (or do they still say that?, LOL!) :D

Wow what a Nice Sweet Clear truck. That Engine you have a PIC of here is the one.

Out here those places are called "Pick and Pull" or at least in my neck of the woods.

They have acres of old cars, new cars, parts, parts and more parts. The Police Dept., is always their too

as many guys like to Pocket small items for FREE, I guess they figure if it'll fit in your pocket it should be FREE, not!!

If it were me, I'd try and get the engine looking just like that PIC, boy it's NICE, you could eat off that Baby!!

Then I'd paint it, I kinda like that white as well, my T-Bird is white, looks nice and stays cool. Plus throw some Flowmaster

Dual Exaust on it as loud as you can get (the loudest legal ones are not that loud btw) I have Flowmaster Dual Exhaust as well.

Maybe tint the windows too!! I like Black too, but it gets Hella HOT in the Summer, then again your Hot summer is what 75F out?

Whats that Logo again? See if you can find some Amarican Racing Mags too. They would look awesome.

I just Love those old Datuns, I really Love the old Datsun 510 Sedans!! Like this one, but I'd loose the Front Hood Mirrors!! Ack!!

Image

I used to own a Mazda RX2 4 Door Sedan myself 1971. This one here is the TWO Door which was much more popular.

Image

I had a Freaking Ball with this car!! It was a freaking Rocket, amazingly fast lttle thing, but only got 17 mpg, Wankle old School Engine.

Always ran great though and as I said had Tons of Power under the hood, tiny little weird engine though. Was loud too.

But it was my baby for a few years!! Took it to Canada, it blew the wiring loom ended up buying a BRAND new FIAT 128 Sedan.

Now that car reminds me a lot of the old Dastun 510's poor mans BMW!! :yahoo: Looks like we'll see more FIATS soon, they are the Worlds largest Auto

Company, little know fact. This FIAT 128 was way ahead of it's time, it has huge inside very nice upholstery and stuff, now this car I drove until

it just quit, took it to Mexico, too!! Front wheel Drive, it was, unheard of to us from the US back then, pretty muck.

Image

I bought this FIAT 128 for 3 500 bucks brand new, I was like 18 maybe. This was FIAT'S answer to the VW BUG back then, it was cheap

and everywhere. Tons of them in other Countries any how. had an 8 gal Fuel Tank!! Got about 35 mpg. 1300 CC Engine, crazy little car.

Anyhow CONGRATS on your NEW TRUCK, VERY NICE!!

Blue

Great Score!!

Thanks, Blue, it is a very clean truck for being 40 years old. I found an intake manifold/ Mikuni carbs and a distruibutor for a real good price, I sent some $$ to hold it but right now I'm more concerned about registration, since it's going to be a "lien sale" it will take 30 days or so for the paperwork. Then I don't know how much it's gonna cost either. So Adam has plenty of time to get the engine cleaned up.

And there are more issues, like the brakes, and the parking brake linkage, since they changed the whole rear axle. And it needs seats but that's not a big issue. It's definately a project. Chris.

yeah sure is in good shape for a Datsun thats for sure. most of the time they are rusted out but they do run real well. but yeah get it fix it you will have a good runner and hey you got a good yr as well. but if you decide to go into the show circuit . that yr is The hardest 1 to be in let me tell ya. i know that from my own experience alone. since i have been showing mine since 1986 before i even had it painted when all i had was the engine done the 1st time.

but i have been working on mine this last few months though to. and now this wk i have spent a lot of time on the gas tank which is now finally back where it belongs under the car.
this is what it look like before i painted it up and got it back where it belong. man i really hurt right now as well
Image Image Image

and here it is after i painted it which the top of the tank only has 2 cans of gloss black paint and the bottom of the tank has 8 can of gloss black paint. the only reason why so many coats was that after it dried you could see were the over spray it and miss. so i had to try and fix it. and then some of the cans would mess up and start to spit out liquid onto the tank and make a mess of thing, which made me

but now it is in

said he'd pay me in a day, well next thing I know I found out Dude was in Jail, and I was'nt gettinng any money, not only that but he forged the paperwork and
put my Bike in his name. I didn't find all this out until a month later as he said when he got out of the can he;d pay me, I though Hell, I'll trust him.

New 16" Wide A$$ radials, Yokahoma, 80,00,000 mile guarantee. New Brakes. Holly Crap everything on the car or in it is new. But I bet I could get more than
