How to make Firefox load pages faster!

Postby Mr. Chris » Tue Dec 09, 2008 6:49 pm

As if Firefox wasn't fast enough, here's a way to make pages load even faster. This presumes you have broadband or DSL, not sure how it will work with dial up :?
(don't type in the quotation marks, put spaces just as I have them)

1) type "about:config" into the address bar, ENTER. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2) Alter the entries as follows:
(to toggle "false" to "true" just double left click on that entry, to change a value, right click and select)

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to a number like "30". This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3) Lastly, right click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set it's value to "0". This is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. That's it! Enjoy! Chris.

Wow!

That works great Chris! At first I thought it wouldn't make that much difference if any at all, but I can tell you this thing smokes! I set the "maxrequests" value to only 15 and it loads about 4 times as fast as it was before!

Good job on that Chris! 8-)

Now what would happen to web servers if everybody was to send 30 requests at a time, all the time? :?

Cheers! :)

Blue

Oh and what about the warning that FF give you when you do this?? :?: ;)

This tweak only works for the browser. Has no affect on gaming (unless it's a browser- based game. Chris.

Chris~

Are you sure this is Right,::

3) Lastly, right click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint, delay" and set it's value to "0". This is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives. That's it! Enjoy! Chris.

Isn't it supposed to be a Period not a Comma (high lighted in RED above)

Just want to be sure. Thanks!!

I did it with a Comma, and think it might be wrong... Or no :D

Blue

Like this :: nglayout.initialpaint.delay

I've just learned that it is a Period (dot) not a Comma. ;)

You can find more info here as well:: http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config

I set my "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 60, it seems Best, IMHO.
