Segate drives use a jumper to set the SATA mode, they come already set for SATA I : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822148236 Chris.

Thx Chris I'll cheak it out.

This is the one I bought --> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136195 <-- and there is no jumpers on it. Unless it uses software to unlock the 3.0Gb/s like the Hitachi drives are :?: so the drive is set to 1.5Gb/s until you unlock it ?

Thx everyone. Just want to make sure that is the right drive so please bear with me. I forund this there --> http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?n ... ab=Install <--

IT says

Serial ATA interface disk drives are designed for easy installation. It is not necessary to set any jumpers, terminators, or other settings on this drive for proper operation. The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 150MB/s drives is for factory use only. The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 300MB/s drives can be used to force the drive into SATA 150MB/s mode for use with older SATA controllers that only work with SATA 150MB/s drives.
.

What do they mean factory use only ??? Will I be able to use the jumper to force SATA 150 ???

This is for the mother-n-law and she is a sticker. Plus she need asap because her Dell is dieing very fast.

I got a hold of newegg and got a RMA number to exchange the drive for the one Mr. Chris posted. Just want to make sure I get the right one is all. Sorry for being a pain in the ass

Thx for all the help guys. :9: :9: :9:

No problem RubberDuck most all the drives come set at 3gbs that is the default setting for most motherboards today. If you have to change the HDD to 1.5gbs you have that option on the jumper block. Yes you can change the jumper to make it work with old motherboards.

This part doesn't apply to you: "The jumper block adjacent to the SATA interface connector on SATA 150MB/s drives is for factory use only. " since the drive you are getting is a SATA II drive. When you get the drive, there should already be a tiny gray jumper on the end where the connectors is. That means the drive is in SATA I mode. If it's not there, then you just add one per the instructions. Chris.
