not so happy owner of a GTX285 SC

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Sat Mar 07, 2009 9:01 am

EVGA GTX285 SC 01G-P3-1285-AR which i just order from Newegg. i got free ship and @ $349.99 i thought i didn't do to bad. since this is the only item i will be able to upgrade. i am using some of my income tax to get this and i hope the 3 items i have listed on craigs list sale which will also help cover the cost some what.

then i think i will sale my EVGA 8800GTX i have with the cooler on it yet and the stock cooler to go with it. wonder what price tag i can put on it since it to will help cover the cost of my new gfx card. i still have the original box the gfx card came in yet.

and i hope my OCZ 700watt psu will handle this till my Tagan 900watt psu gets RMA and back to me. which i am still waiting for a reply to my many emails and RMA forms i filled out at there web site!! which i will never buy from them again because of this wait.

i just hope i can sale those items that i have listed there since they are going to cover what i did.

As far as your OCZ 700w PSU goes, if it's the GameXStream or ModXStream, you shouldn't have any problem at all as they have +12V rails rated at 50A and 46A.

The requirements for the GTX 285 are for a PSU with 550W and 40A on the +12V rail sustained/continuous (Total System Power) so you should have more than enough juice to feed the beast.

Let me know how it works out for you after you get it. Great choice in cards by the way, gotta love EVGA.

yep its the gamexstream that i have. so i can not wait to get it thats for sure. yeah tax refund is good but i got get enough to pay the old property taxs to yet. so thats why i really need to get some stuff sold. which i have on craiglist right now. 3 items.

well those are the items on sale if after a wk i get no hits im gonna drop them dwon in price a bit.

Congrats Scavy!!

Yeah BUDDY now your set, I didn't read the whole thread, but, was wondering what your doing with your 8800GTX?

No matter, I still have my 8800GTS640 for a back up card, if I had went with a dual PCIe Set-Up I could use one for

PhysX only, and I would. As far as your 700 wt PSU, that'll power your GTX285 easy bro. IMHO.

What a Looker too, these cards ROCK!! Stupid me, I buy games, not cards all the time, LOL!!

Very Happy for you Scavy!! :yahoo:

well thanks Blue and yes so far i am very happy with it. just like when i got the 8800gtx i was very happy with it to. well im thinking of selling it since i do not have a nvidia chip set beside the 700watter wont run both any ways. since it was a struggle with just the 8800gtx. but ill get some pics up here some time tonight. i think i may take it back out and redo the thermal paste on it. since other have stated it help with temps. even though mine are pretty good yet. with it down clocking it stay very cool, like 33C like it is now. but gaming i have seen it hit 66C so far

well im in XP and was playing STALKER for about 2 hrs. and man what a huge difference it makes! now with AA and AF force to 16X via nvidia control panel. on the main menu im well over 2400fps and in game im over 100fps steady. but i notice the temp was over 70C though but that is with the gpu fan still set to stock auto, which is 25% well i now got my tweak auto fan setting set so maybe it will be different next time i play it. all so i got some nice benchmarks.

Image finally broke into the 17K's WOOT!!

then i ran clear sky benchmark and wow

guess i should have taken some pictures before i installed the card

not to bad uh? even though i am still running and old dual core C2D it still got some muscle left in yet to go.

yeah i have been messing with the clocks but i have been using what BFG used which seems to work really good. but when i bench i use the EVGA FTW clock speed which works well but i cant game at that with some games. STALKER for one does not like it much. but i all ways leave the shader link when i do adjust it. but yeah when i 1st got it the fan speed auto setting was at 25% :?

but even at that setting the idel temp was 32 to 34C which it does that down clocking thing. then the highest i have seen it go was 71C which was when i was playing STALKER which i felt was od. since bench marking it it never got into the 70C at all just in the low to mid 60C is all. but i was over clock to, lol FTW speeds!! which is 720 core shader link and memory 1386

i havent tried the EVGA SSC clocks yet. and to see if i can game with those settings yet, which is 702 core memory 1323. but right now i have it set to BFG SC clocks which is 691 core and memory 1296 which is just over what EVGA SC runs at. so i think i got me a great over clocker of a card. since i could not do that high with the 8800GTX

which will be add to my craig list which ill start out at $175.00 with both coolers going with it. i think that would be a fair price to start with

well my 2nd RMA card is running real good yet. i have been playing @ EVGA FTW clock speed which is 720c / 1651s / 1386m so far so good. and with my tweak auto fan setting via rivatuner all is good temp wise as well. so far max temp hasn't gone past 66c i think? and now a lot of the newest screen shot i am posting will have temp reading in the upper left hand side now. which will be the gpu and then cpu core #1 and #2 temps. since i like to know temp on both and not just 1

and since if i need to have a few app open i might as well have them sharing the same thing. rivatuner like everest and since i have everest open all the time it makes since for me to use them together. and now i even have forced nvidia control panel to have crysis and warhead to 8x on AA and AF now with this card. since it runs so good on it.

cause wow
Image
couldn't do that on the 8800GTX at all lol.
and wow FO3 look wild

well as you can see i have been playing a lot yesterday/last night in vista even though i do have this driver in xp. but i am not sure if this occlusion stuff is in xp or not so i am not gonna go check yet till i get my fill of play here with these games i have on my plate here. which is a lot. but i have not tried them all yet. since i have not tried HAWX or GRID or Lost Planet yet.

once again email to evga tech support

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:55 pm

well day 3 with email and now phone call with a evga tech support personnel. for the same thing again. well 1/2 of what happen the last time i had problems some of you may not know what happen last time but i had a lot of problem and it was this card.

i had blue/gray/pink screens of death and games and benchmark stuttering!! well now the only thing i have is the stuttering and it is not a good thing. be it single player or multiplayer.

either way it sucks to no end let me tell ya. well so far i had to install a gfx driver i know sucks 190.62 and then i had to remove 3 or the 4 sticks of ram and to top it all off i had to put the cpu to stock speed aka 2.66ghz!

after all of that i still have the stuttering and i did remember that the 4 pin moldex plug just above the 2nd pci-e slot havent had anything plug into it and i brought that up to him. he said give that a try and see what happens.

well it did help a bit but still it is not fix i was hoping it would have been that easy but it was not to be. but he said the next thing is to test the gfx card in another system so i have a friend that got my 8800gtx he said i could test it in his to see but i need to get with him for a set time to do this.

beside all the other things i have tried to do to get rid of this gawd awful stuttering has not work yet. the tech did say that the 285 i sent in past all of there test. and that the original card i sent in, the 1 that caught on fire or went up in smoke.

he said may have cause me problems down the road somewhere like this. so maybne my psu or mobo or ram is going bad or what not. but i do know the cpu is good and the psu is good since both are new to the system since that had happen.

and the ram i am now running the new ram that i got cause at that time i was only running 4gigs of ram and i have the newest set in and now i have only 1 stick of ram installed now. but i am now looking at trying to get a abit ip35pro mobo so in case my mobo is some what damage i could swap it out and put that 1 in.

but the only thing is there aint many left out there and since ebay doesnt have many listed either so my chance of landing 1 is slim and none.
