1066Mhz vs 800 Mhz

Postby Mikesan » Fri Jan 02, 2009 1:38 pm

Again im sorry if this isnt in the right place, Chris. :P

Im getting 4gb of RAM , the 800Mhz kit is half the price of the 1066Mhz. Is the performance difference between 800Mhz and 1066Mhz worth paying double?

No, not worth double the price, no way. A benchmark would show the difference but I don't think it's much. Chris.

Im gonna go with Chris...but...

Im curious if its an Intel or an AMD. And who is making the RAM your comparing...If its the same company for both, then that doesnt matter. But if one is Kingston Value Ram and the other is OCZ....

Greybear If he is getting memory for the board in is sig. I don't think that would be a smart move on his part.

Thats why I asked about the Processor. In his sig. he already has 1066...First...I assume he is smart enough not to MIX speeds :P But, Im thinking I want 1066 for the Intels. But thats me.

Both kits are OCZ , its for my other PC (brother uses it) which has an Intel Q6600 and the same mobo as in my sig (GA-EP45-DS3R). The RAM has died so im just replacing it and upgrading to 4Gb at the same time.

So which rig is running the 64bit OS? Cause 4GB on VISTA PREMIUM, VISTA 32, XP 32 is like over kill.

Im leaning on the 1066 myself, but these other guys using INTELS would know better. CL value? Timing values?

But here is what I wonder also. Why go with OCZ when your using Crucial and you know how it performs? Whats the cost difference there, and how well does your 2GB perform?

Memory bandwidth is not a big issue with Core 2. The massive caches offset the latencies with the DRAM-NB-CPU connection. AMD rigs are another story, as are Core i7 with their direct, high-bandwidth RAM-CPU connection

I would hope the RIG is 64, be ashame to buy a 32bit processor these days....kinda like buying a single core instead of a Quad....But the question is what is the Operating System? :P
