Headset (USB)

Postby St__Evil » Sun Aug 12, 2012 9:51 am

abitdom, I come to thee for help..... again :D

So, my old headset broke (well the mic) ages and ages ago, never really bothered replacing it and as I'm moving soon I've thrown some old stuff away - I could have probably repaired it but meh.

so I'm in need of a USB headset, the reason for USB is because my laptop does not have a MIC in.
I've looked around and there's stuff that caters for about every price range, but I want something not overly expensive but still quality. Most of the expensive ones appear to be game branded.

some requirements;
needs fit around the ears with good padding, so there's not alot of sound coming from outside.
mic needs to be clear, and be able to move far enough away that I can drink/eat without it getting dirty. Detachable is optional.
I don't have a big head nor do I have any hair so the bit that goes over my head needs to be soft (faux leather for instance)
Would prefer no foam, as that tends to break off after a while, unless it's covered up
Money - lets say £50 as that sort of appears to be the middle ground - less is welcome of course

oh and, wireless would also be awesome, but from what I've seen that probably won't fit in a normal budget. Suggestions above 50 are welcome too btw.

I have a really old Plantronics headset, but it uses standard type input jacks. I also bought, last year, a really nice Creative Fatal1ty MKII gaming headset. It's USB. But, it was $70USD. It was well worth it. Nice, nice headset. No poofy foam padding, all solid plastic over the top with "plether" padding. Well, I call it "plether" it's like fake leather. Nice big ear muffs. Very comfortable. Mic is really good, and swings up out of the way. Little out of your price range, tho. Look at Plantronics if they have it there.

hey chris,

yea I was looking at the fatility one, it's not actually to expensive, well not sure if it has USB as I can't find specs for them anywhere :( do you have a link for the one you have? doesn't matter if its in USA, at least I'll be able to look for the correct series.
Also fatility is pretty much a dead name now, so you can pick most things as excess stock over here as they would never get sold other wise.

There are other creative ones that look similar to the fatality range, but without the branding; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-Labs-7 ... 864&sr=1-1
not sure if they are the same though, but it comes with additional USB dongle if needed.

There's a couple of plantronics ones that look similar - only ever head plantronics stuff for work, although that was their wireless stuff, mine never worked so I'm a bit weary of their gear.
here's the plantronics one; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Plantronics-Gam ... omputers_0 they appear to have a velvety cover.

I can't find that MK11 anywhere. I mean, I have it in my hand, but I can't find it on line. I got it at the local Best Buy store.

But, here's a quick Google: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... m%2f%20USB Might give you a few suggestions, Saint.

Thanks for checking chris.

I have a list now of ones with good reviews, so it's gonna be a coin flip I think ;)
Will pop into a local store to check the sizes before deciding.
