BIOS hot key to change boot drives?

Postby Mr. Chris » Mon Dec 22, 2008 5:38 pm

KN9 SLI, X2 6400+ BE, 2GB OCZ Platinum, EVGA GTX260, SATA II drives: 320Gb (XP Pro) 160Gb (Vista SP2) 80Gb (Win7 MC3 pre-beta) DVD burner, CM PSU & case.

Basically is there a shortcut/ hot key that you hit during BOOT to change the BOOT drive sequence? Tired of having to enter BIOS each time to change BOOT drives. Thanks. Chris.

Reboot the computer and look at the bottom of the screen.

Im waiting for Chris to find it. Its actually is funny, you boot the computer several times and you start forgetting that there is information on the screen during bootup.

I'll post the answer tomorrow if Chris hasnt found it.

BTW, its none of the F keys.

LOL, actually since my PC runs 24/7, and normally I just boot into whatever O/S I'm running, I never do notice. But now that I'm trying to get Win& M3 pre beta up and running, I will need to be able to change the boot order a little faster. I'll give it a try now. Chris.

Hah! It's the ESC key, gives you a boot menu, BUT, it doesn't let you select which hard drive. So I'll still have to go into BIOS and choose which hard drive I want to be the first boot drive. Oh, well, the things I do for progress. Now if I can just get Win7 to boot at all, I'll be on the road to sheer adventure! :? Chris.

Ok, your really starting to worry me.

reboot the system again. select ESC, then select the HARDDRIVE, then select the HARDDRIVE you want to boot from.

Mine works so well that it gives me the ones connected to the Sil ATA/133 card also.

All you get when you press the ESC key is a boot menu like you get in Advanced BIOS Settings: Floppy, LS120, Hard Disk, CD ROM, USB.... etc. So you can choose Hard Disk but not which one if you have several.

That Vista Boot Pro looks good, but I also found a Forum link with a bunch of folks already running both pre beta versions of Win7. Gonna sign up there maybe later. Chris.

No, I don't get any extra drive options, if I select Hard Drive then hit enter, it boots off whatever drive I have selected in BIOS to boot from. I'm running BIOS v.19, you may have a newer BIOS with more features? Chris.
