VIA P4X400-vt8235 Audio Driver install issues

Postby freezy » Mon Aug 29, 2011 4:11 am

This is actually on a Shuttle AV49

I'm running XP home sp3 new install.
I have installed Directx
The device manager doesn't show any yellow question marks

I have tried installing ac'97 straight from realtek and intel hd audio

plus the windows update site tries to install but fails also.

any ideas?

Ummm, Freezy, why install Realtek or Intel on a board with VIA sound? Uninstall all those drivers and try this one: http://www.viaarena.com/displaydrivers. ... bCatID=104

Image Couldnt find the AV49, but found AV49n and AV49vn and both have the AC97

Mind explaining something to me...is this a NEW install of the OS and are you using a WinXP SP3 disc, or are you updating to that first and then trying to install the drivers?

Bear, I know that you know the AC97 is only a spec. Unless the specs for the board say specifically what chip it's using, it's easy to install the wrong driver.

I had this board so I know it uses the VIA sound.

Freezy, you can find out for sure by downloading Everest Home Edition from Majorgeeks.com. It will tell you what sound chip the board has.

Oh, BTW, SP3 broke a lot of VIA sound drivers. They never bothered with a fix either. Could be easier to just grab a cheap sound card. ;)

This is basically the same board: http://www.via.com.tw/en/products/embed ... pb_400.jsp

Figured this was the same issue from the old ABIT forum, where if they update beyond the base SP2, Windows does that UUA update and then the user cannot install the drivers.

That is the exact issue. Happened a lot with the VIA drivers. Like I say, I don't think there ever was an answer for it either. :(

The only fix was to install the drivers prior to the update patching. It had to be right after the original SP2 because there were actually 2 UUA patches that did this.
