Good graphics card for my money?

Postby afrocat » Fri Jul 02, 2010 1:18 am

I'm thinking of building a PC, and frankly, I have no clue what to get. I want something that will play current and upcoming games well (PORTAL TWO), but isn't massively expensive. I'd really like to be in the $200 or less range. I'm probably going to go with an AMD Phenom II x4 processor, if that makes a difference.

Also: Not quite sure if this is under the right forum.

This is one heck of a card for the money, and it will very easily run all the newest games: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130537
This is a great board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813138140
And, for an AMD quad core, this is the best bang for the buck: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103871 (and you get a free game!)
RAM, go with G Skill: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231148 (man, RAM prices have gone crazy!)
You are gonna need a nice CPU cooler, and this one is the best: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835103065
A 500Gb SATA II drive will cost maybe $50. A DVD burner about $25.
This is the case I got, and I love it. It has plenty of room inside and you don't need any tools for the hard drives. Plenty of cooling, too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811119197
Don't go cheap on a power supply. When it blows up, it will take all the rest of the parts with it. I run these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817171052

You need any more help, just ask us. Now, get back to work so you can pay for all that "stuff" :taunt: :Bananas:

2)stupid board died already *pfffftttt*
3) AX78, Phenom 9600, 2Gb OZC PC6400, EVGA 9800GTX, CDRW/DVD, CM CP600PCAR 600W, XP Pro Sp2

That's very helpful. What about a sound card, though?
EDIT: nevermind, it's integrated in the motherboard.

Will this card more than likely still be playing games decently 2 or 3 years from now?

It's only a DX10 card so it won't be able to run games that are DX11, but it should be fine for several years.
