Just replaced the fans in wifes computer.

Just replaced the fans in wifes computer.

Several years ago I bought this 6 pack of 80mm fans for like $6. I just got to use the first 2 out of it :)

But here is something I thought was odd. The two fans I replaced went out about the same time a few months back. Since I kept using her computer for other computer repair situation, I just left the side panel off anyway and figured no need to replace.

Tonight, I decided to fix them. Man were they hot in the center.

My suggestion is if you have any fans that are connected but not working, even if you do not replace them, at least unplug them.

Definitely.
Sounds like the fan motors had seized - the whole time they were pulling current.

Yeah. Never realized they continued pulling and that it would generate that kind of heat.

Well, Unlike most, mine and the wifes are IDENTICAL computers. I buy everything in sets of 2.

The last batch of fans I bought, I spent a little more and got the "fluid bearing" ones. MTBF rating of 150,000 hours. Sleeve bearing fans rate about 30,000 hours, ball bearings about 50,000 hours. And I don't enjoy changing fans. So a few extra bucks is well spent. ;) Chris.
