CNET.com, and Majorgeeks.com, are two of my most trusted sites. Yeah, you have to uncheck a box now and then to avoid a toolbar being installed. But they both also make sure the downloads are scanned for any virus or spyware. I have a high amount of trust and respect for CNET. :9:

The problem is, the number of people that know to pay attention during an install to keep an eye out for those 'got'cha apps' is so minimal it makes the success of the toolbar install quite profitable for CNET.
I don't have a thing in the world against making a profit, but sometimes the way it's made can be a bit 'shady'.

Personally I wouldn't download anything from CNET, just because of this new practice they've started. Call it a personal boycott.

As I said, it's always far better to go to the developers web site to download an app without that 3rd party garbage included. ;)

Sometimes, even the Authors site redirects you back to DOWNLOAD.com.

In several of my posted items, I made sure to include Alternative links as I understand exactly what your saying.

Ill try not to use DOWNLOAD.COM anymore as every download appears to be the SAME size 443kb and has the name of the item your trying to download. The problem with this is that essentially, they are lying to the person downloading and not telling them that this is a downloading toolbar or secure downloader.

If there is a file your looking for that you cannot get without going to Download.com, let me know and Ill see if I still have the original Downloaded file that I can email to you.

As Chris said, Two of my Most trusted Download sites are c|net and Major Geeks, I also trust Softpedia (wiki's sister site) as well as File Hippo.

Sometimes you'll get more ads and junk toolbars from the Software's main site, honestly, I hate TOOLBAR install apps, about half of all download sites

have them, Original Software sites included :o :!: :banghead: We all just need to pay attention is all, toolbars can normally be removed in

ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS AND APPLICATIONS via control panel, or CrapCleaner, Tweak Now 2011, Auslogics, and several other apps. I use Windows first

and foremost myself. :9:

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm (sorry, I can't get Greybear's format to work.)

Boy, did this one save my arse this morning downloading from a server that kept resetting.

You can use Flash get with Firefox and tell it you have FDM, and Firefox will use it automatically. No spam, no ads. Increased my download speed from 88Kbps to over 500Kbps. Wow. I love it!
