looking for a new psu

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Wed Jul 29, 2009 9:44 am

well i think i may need a new psu or at least a real good back up just in case. since right now i have no spare psu in case my main rig psu goes out.

it is a OCZ 700watt and what i am looking for is in the 900watt range. i would like to get a modular psu for once since i have never had 1 before.

buti do want to keep the price as low as possible if i can i do have a few that i am looking at and here they are.

these are the 1 i am looking at right now even though 2 of them are really out of my price range but still they look good yet.

i do like OCZ psu since i have 1 right now and like there tech support. since they really do back there stuff and if they dont have what you sent in they will upgrade you.

since the psu i have installed now is my rma it use to be a 600watt so yeah i do like them.

ok i didnt know tjhat about the corsairs psu, thanks for the intell on that ;) and that 1 is cheaper as well from the 1 i was looking at to. so hows corsairs tech support on there psu go then? since the 1 you listed HJ is a nice 1 and i hope it is still cheap when i can get 1 after i get my property tax paid off here some time soon. even though with that extra savings and MIR dam that is dirt cheap for a 850watt !

I liked the Video he posted about the blowing up of the PSU....think they bought 5 and destroyed all. Cannot remember the brand they destroyed.

Maximum PC did an article a few years ago where they tested 10 of the "best" PSU's at the time, and they tested them the same way, under rated load and at high temps. I forget which was the best back then, but surprisingly, it was not the most expensive one. And a few that you would not expect to, burned up!

I have been using these in my quad Folding rigs for a while now, actually nice power supplies: http://www.zumaxpower.com/products/zu600w.htm But like the specs on most if not all PSU's, the wattages never really add up right. But I don't have enough stuff inside to push these to their limits. I like the sheilded power connectors for the GPU, and the dedicated fan connectors: you don't need 4 pin Molex to 3 pin fan adaptors. The oldest one is going on 3 years, so they seem pretty stable. So far. ;)

Like Grandpa Warner told me, "ain't nothin' 100% and ain't nothin' gonna last forever". Chris.

yeah HJ i remember yellowbeard from back then. i think he was 1 i was chatting to about my ram when i 1st got the dominator 1066. when i had a lot of trouble with it and blue screens.

Chris yeah i think i saw that to but it was on the net somewhere not sure where but i think it was last yr or the yr before. i know i have like the OCZ brand since they took real good care of me with my 600watt psu went bad.

and then gave me a free upgrade to a 700watt which was a smaller in size psu. my tagan psu which has the EMI cable on it which went bad twice on me and i will never get 1 ever again

is just sitting here on the floor collecting dust and what not. beside they never got back to me after i call them to tell them it was still junk yet. after all that time and they never fix it!!! i wonder what they robbed out of mine to fix someone else psu with ?

well i think if and when i can it will be between this 1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139009

and this 1
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817341003

since they are the same wattage and same price as well. so between these 2 which would be the best choice? but then again this wont happen till maybe next yr the way things are going right now,

I know I haven't been around alot. I'm not trying to sound smart, but why so much watts? I'm only asking because I still feel PSU are really over rated to what real need. Yes I have a 700w PSU for my I7 but I got it for really good price.

yeah true but i also have 4 set of CCT lights 2 set of 12" and 2 set of 6" and im going to add another set of 12" to it. beside all the lighted high output fans i have. right now i have my lights off cause it seems to cause my system to act funny.

and not in a good or nice funny way. so that is why i am going with more wattage since i have a OCZ gamerxtreme 700watt right now. and beside all of the lights i to have 4 hdd and 2 opticals and a card reader with fan controller and water pump. beside keeping the cpu OC at all times does takes some wattage and amperage as well.

but that is the main reason why i am looking at no less then a 850watt even though i would like to get a 1K really but they are large in size and cost but for now a 850 will get me by just fine. but that 1 you posted would be a good back up since my server use a 680watt as it is.
