Sounds like a Firewall issue.

Initially i thought as well but then there's isn't any third party firewall like za or any router, his connection is directly to a modem. The only firewall is within window vista home premium. Hmm anything to do with window defender or User Account Control (UAC)?

I guess the Reg fix didn't work? No Windows Defender and the UAC shouldn't have any baring on this at all.

All the reg fix does is this, can't hurt anything ....

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger]

FORMAT again. Is my suggestion.

Blue

Or go here and see what Brink says? http://www.vistax64.com/

:band:

Just playing about the Format, but it may come to that, Vista Forums is your best bet, if HJ can't figure it out.

Then as I said Formating about the only Option. JMHO!!

The Firewall within Windows should not be turned on by Default. That means he is probably getting IE to connect to the internet but not other items.

Just make sure to goto the Security section in the Control Panel and Verify that it is disabled.
