Yay! New stuff! It's here! Already! Yay!

Well I don't want to give up my KN9 SLI. I just don't. So you can't have it. Don't ask. I need it for a backup. 8-) Best board I have ever owned. Period.

But yesterday I was looking around at Teh Egg and  I bit the bullet; I got this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 813138130R and the CPU and RAM that they say "customers have also bought" so that's the Phenom II 940 and the 4Gb of G Skill 1066 RAM.

Now comes the fun of backing up all the stuff on my Vista drive because going from an Nvidia chipset to an ATI chipset, Vista is gonna have a hemmorage. I know it, I can feel it. Plus reactivating Vista, it's not gonna like a new board and CPU. So this should be fun. :o :|

At least I have my Folding PC's that I can get back online with if I need to. So, in the immortal words of the Guvinator, "I'll be back" Chris.

No, gonna stay with 5 for now but I'll keep the KN9 SLI as a backup. Hmmmm. Maybe I should have bought that case I could put this new board in it. :? Oh well. Chris.

Congrats Chris!!

You bought the Open Box, I've always been confused as to what you really get and what you don't.

Here's the Board and parts AFAIK. Did you get all this stuff? Or just the MoBo in a White Box??

Just curious is all, as I've been looking at some Open Box items there as well. HJ may know?

So what did you get?? What's in this PIC, or NO??

Image

That New AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz CPU sounds awesome too, OC's like a Beast they say.

Plus it's a Quad core, judging from the 1100+ reviews it's a bit tricky to OC, I guess? One guy said Vista

can't handle it OC'ed past 3.8 GHz or something? Anyhow sounds Awesome!! I love that Ram too!!

Have fun with it, and let us know what you end up with in an Open BOX?? ;) I'm gonna milk my System as long as I can.

Only thing I'll do is Upgrade the GPU someday. Still want the GTX 275 FTW from EvGa, Core Clocked 713, stock.

Better get the rent paid first though. LOL!! :yahoo:

BioStar, is that a Foxconn?? Or kinda like an Asrock??

Blue

Anyhow, that should be a ROCKING FAST setup!! :!:

Open Box, yes, but it came with everything in the picture.

I'm still screwing around, backing up stuff, I really don't want to shut down my Abit board. :( But I'm not giving it away or selling it so I'll still have it. Time to move upwards, eh?

AFAIK, Biostar is Biostar. Time to get busy I suppose. :P Chris.

So far so good. Running on the old Vista install. We'll see how it likes the new board and CPU. Sure runs nice tho.

I'm not used to AMI BIOS. Reminds me of 486 days, LOL. Jeesus, can they ever stop with the new crap in BIOS? Every page, I was saying, "WTF is this now?" Crist.

Only beefs about the board so far are: Clear CMOS jumper is under the video card; SATA ports not labeled well enough in the manual as to which is on top or bottom (they are sideways mount so that's cool) Otherwise all went smooth. More painless than my KN9 SLI was, but I'll have to see how it performs.

Vista did not want to activate again either, but maybe that's because I didn't reinstall it? Or did SP1 fix having to reactivate when you did a major hardware change?

O.K., now I have to go play some games, it's for testing purposes. I'm not goofing off, really I'm not. Really. Chris.

Vista did end up making me re-activate. I wasn't surprised, and it only took a few minutes.

Man this board boots in a snap! Really quick. My Windows Experience score is now 5.9 which is max I think. It was 5.5 before, CPU was holding me back.

One other thing about this board, there is no heat sink on the MOS FET's. But the Cooler Master Hyper TX 2 HSF has this cool plastic sheild that points air from the fan down at the MOS FET's. Hopefully that will keep them cool. I didn't install the Biostar "T Series software" that has all the hardware monitor and overclocking crap in it so I have no idea the operating temps yet of anything. But it's on my list for tomorrow. Chris.

The Phenom II really cooks and I don't overclock. I Went to local computer repair shop and got another HS for the CPU. The one that come with the CPU is to small. The CPU is running at about 33c at idle. I got the computer up for sale and have a guy that is going to buy it. :9:

Hi Chris, I know how you feel about the Abit boards.
I just moved my kn9 to my wife/daughter case.
I gave my kv8pro to my daughters Bf.
I like the bios, so dang easy to set up.
I just bought an Asus m4a78-plus and AMDx2 7750 black kuma.
I am not crazy about the bios they use, ok is easy with the black, 3ghz very easy.
Runs real good, have that running linux smp doing 2600ppd.
For now until my gpu gets back from rma.
Good luck with the new board Chris.

Bill, I looked at the Asus boards, but being a Member at TK Arena (VIA Tech Support Forum) I know those boards use the VIA VT1708S audio chip and Asus screwed up implementing that chip into the board's design. Lots of folks with problems. But for Folding sound is disabled anyways, eh?

Now if I can just get the SMP client to run I'll be cooking with gassssssssssss! :P

BTW, I'm about to catch up to you. :( Chris.
