Sometimes both

The National Institute on Media and the Family is unveiling its 13th annual video game report card to help parents choose games that are "appropriate" for their children this Christmas. The group spends most of its time trying to get the video game industry to develop better ratings and retailers to do more to prevent kids from being able to buy mature-themed games.

It has had some success - most games are rated and stores are better at preventing games being sold to people underage. However the group still feels the need to warn parents about content in games which in its view parents should stop their precious snowflakes getting their sticky paws on.

Things that glamorise sex, for example, is high on their agenda because children shouldn’t know anything about sex until they at least 40. Games that show drugs and violence should also be limited, the group says. Institute president David Walsh said that children spent far too much time playing adult games and the group wants stronger parental oversight. He also added that parents need to wake up and realize that the games our kids play do influence them.

The hit list of games include "Blitz: The League II" where players can target which body part of their football rivals they want to injure, Warriors in "Gears of War 2" where you can use a combination rifle and chain saw and "Saints Row 2" which features gang violence and allows players to shoot police officers. "Dead Space," "Fallout 3," "Far Cry 2," "Legendary," "Left 4 Dead," "Resistance 2" and "Silent Hill: Homecoming," also earned a strong rebuke.

The sort of games kids should be playing are "Guitar Hero World Tour," "Rock Band 2," "Rock Revolution" "Spider-Man: Web of Shadows" and "Shaun White Snowboarding."

i have to disagree.. tho i did not even read it.. the title says enough for my response..

if not for computers and gaming. id more than likely be out more. and looking for women.. tho im poor and low. i do clean up well. have some nice cloths and shoes etc. a lil silver or white gold. and i can talk and be gentlemanly etc. and its not like ive never pulled women before.. and i dont have to talk about anything i do not wish to. and i do not necessarily need to be truthful either.. and id have more chance to get in trouble period..

here at home.. i kill all i want on my computer.. and im still sexual just not with others ha ha :D

but even so. i still need to be careful. not to commit assault on my self.. riddle me this bat man.. whats the difference between pink and purple.. ha ha.. you will never guess so.. the answer is.. your grip.. :D

It all comes down to how children are raised and what values the parents teach them. And yes, parents need to be directly involved in supervising what video games kids play, what T.V shows and movies they watch, and also notice changes in kid's behavior. But most parents today are too busy, both having jobs to support the family, so kids run around without any supervision. So then parents cry out for Government regulations to "fix" their kids because they can't or won't or don't have time.

A watchdog group is just a name for wannabe Government types. I frag the crap out of others in video games, in real life I hate violence. Sex is a totally different subject. Pink and purple, eh? :o  :? Chris.

Could Not Agree More!! Chris, very well said and exactly what I think as well!! ;)

In this Day and Age, many kids get left behind. It all boils down to Family Matters.

Whatever Happened to Dinner at the Table with your kids and both Parents

talking about each ones lives? Gone it is. Sad it is. Probably never be like it was again. IMHO.
