I had a white '84 Subaru wagon. Best car I ever owned (well, except for my Z) Used that car like the Beverly Hillbillies. Moved mom, brother, and many friends using that wagon like a truck. Yeah, put a few clutches in it (it also liked to break a throttle cable, just at the wrong time) Rebuilt the motor once. 480,000 miles when I gave it to a friend. Finally kept popping out of second gear. Poor old gal lived on another few years. Yes, that darn A/C still worked until I gave it away. Amazing. Front axels, yeah, about every 100k miles. Just get new ones. Rebuilts didn't last too long.

I would buy rebuilt cv's and buy the dealer boots and change them out- first clean well inspect and then repack good grease in them and worked great. The 3rd party boots was always thin soft and cheap and might break just pulling them off the rack after just replaced and turn the wheels and drive the car across the lot to park it. I could still save money versus buying only the dealer part.

Rebuilt cv's and if done right and new guts was plenty fine- cheap boots is another story- the dealer boots cost more but was way better quality.

Battery or alternator replacements is really all I did to it- loved the hill holder also. Some folks are more hard on clutches and brakes. Many folks drive and keep his foot light resting on the clutch peddle and might not know but is pushing on it a lil makes it ware faster or they are slow about pushing the clutch in/out and makes it ware faster also. Cv's time belts chains 80-100,000 miles a clutch around 100,000 miles is about average- some folks get more or less. Near the end I had to recharge my ac about every other year - but it always worked- might pop some stupid odd ball fuse that cost a lot every now and then. My toyotas might have some odd fuse that cost a lot and can only get from a dealer also.

Ya me loved my lil suby wagon- the 4wd was way more probs which the 4wd stuff is more stuff to break or maintain to start with- I mean they was good cars just more maintenance etc. My lil wagon was just a good lil car- it was cute also for a wagon.

** My lil baby looked better than this- but this is basically it- Miss my lil ru ru- Another good thing for me is- I became buds with my subaru dealer mechanic- we would hang out and buz- he would do side work at home and if anything I could not do he would and at less cost and show me how to do it also and charge me even less for helping him- he could do anything rebuild the trans anything- which he was also a certified bmw mech and could work on most anything- id let him work on my corola also if needed. The suby dealership was a good job at the time- he and other mechs liked the suby's- it was also a hundyi ? dealership- they hated them and dogged them out and beat them all sorts of stuff working on them- I would see them do it in the shop- they all said they hated them they was junk- but suby was a quality car. My buds fav ru ru was also the 83-84 they was the only 2 with that exact engine set up- could leak a lil oil but a great lil engine and the whole car was a quality build. I think the brats was cool cooling cars->

I crashed my ru ru it had new cv's and clutch and about 186,000 miles and just broke in good. The last clutch had about 10,000 on it- less for the cv's. I can not remember now exact number of miles. I ran that itch off the cliff on purpose- Police said in its own write ups about 60 mh flew through the air about 56 feet hit a tree about 4 foot off the ground head on and only broke my arm- ha ha I was hurt more from police abuse and they maced me- but I was suicidal- cuffs did not feel good being my arm was broken in 3 places just above my wrist.

I am so stupid- gees I should have died- ruined my dang ru ru- that is not my first car or property I would destroy :P

I did not buy it new- I bought it from a man I worked with at servicemaster he bought it new and had all service records all of it and he only took it to a dealer. The car only had a few minor probs over the years- he hated to let it go but was time to buy a new ruby for his wife and he- so. I think he said a sensor went bad on it one time and he put a number of mufflers and a clutch and cv's on it- that is general maintenance. I drove the car like 4 years- over 3 years delivery driving. I paid 1,700 for it and spent maybe 1000 in it over the years I had it. Struts shocks breaks clutch and cv's tires- I was putting like 3,000 miles a month on it [city driving- pizza] so I changed the oil and filter every month.

I did give up on that stuff tho- have calmed done some in general on the net also- it is just a few forums I post in now- I might read or search info on lots of sites but will not post. I have less attacks against me- less to fight back over and less probs all together. Even chat rooms- got sick of them- I go to China or Philippians to chat with the sweet ladies what ever and idiots attack ya and start chit- just get sick of it. Abithelp and via are pretty cool me thinks.

Ha ha run my ru ru off the cliff foam at the mouth- teeth gritting yelling laa laa laaalu laa like the arabs with a bomb on my chest- ruined the dang thing  :D

See ya.

Bill~

That was Fiat pf the 70's. You have no no idea how many times I heard that phrase!! :yahoo: Though Honestly my FIAT 128 was a great car,

I used to commute to work in it, from Cupertino, Ca. to Oakland, Ca. Over 50 miles, in HEAVY TRAFFIC TOO. :!: I called it taking FART (not Bart)

meaning Fiat Almost Rapid Transit!! LOL!! Back in the 70's 35mpg was unheard of for the most part, My 128 had an 8 gallon gas tank!! Yikes!!

With gas @ less than a buck a gallon, it costs next to nothing to commute to work, Jack London Square. The 128 had a gang of room inside too, very comfy,

with a Mighty 1,300cc Engine, Whoa :P Costs about a buck 50 to do the whole commute, that's with picking up my fellow workers, non of them had a car.

The only thing that really was an issue was the Clutch cable would snap now and then, I carried a spare,

With the FIAT 500's you get an outstanding Guarantee, so I'm sure they are Built Excellent.

Subaru's are every bit as reliable as any Honda or Toyota, if not more so, IMHO. :good: :good: :good: Btw, that's Me and my G/F in that PIC..... :D
