Blue ray software.

Postby Bill1024 » Fri Feb 19, 2010 5:27 am

Anyone know of some good software to watch blue ray disks on the computer?
I would prefer freeware or shareware downloads.
I am thinking of buying a blueray drive and setting up a hdtv/computer system.

The last DVD drive I bought came with the free version of Power DVD. I would hope that for the prices they charge for a Blue Ray drive it would come with some kind of software.
1)Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3, Phenom II 970, 8Gb G Skill Sniper 1866, EVGA GTX470SC, 2x 500Gb SATA II RAID 0, Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit RTM
2) AX78, Phenom 9500, 2Gb OCZ PC6400, EVGA 9800GTX+, CDRW, XP Pro SP2
3) AX78, Phenom 9600, 2Gb OZC PC6400, EVGA 9800GTX, CDRW/DVD, CM CP600PCAR 600W, XP Pro Sp2

Yep I have Power DVD, software, came with something? FREE. Works fine. But doesn't Win7 have it's own Blue Ray Player??

Thought it did? Hummmm. Guess not though :banghead: The PS3's have it, I know. This site looks Cool, once you get Blue Ray

or maybe, just use it?:: http://themovie-downloading.com/ OR here for I'm sure a Paid version, PowerDVD 9 :: http://www.cyberlink.com/products/power ... en_US.html

I looked for a quite some time, there's a TON of Free Burning, Converting Software to Blue Ray format, but a FREE BLUE RAY Player, no.

Here's a Nice Blue Ray Player w/free shipping at New Egg :: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6882103416

Here's one from COREL free trial, then buy I guess :: http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/ ... bview=tab0

Personally HD is all I need for now. All I have is my HD Monitor though, but it works great with HD Movies.

Software I could find, worth it's salt:: http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-DVD-P ... ?tag=mncol

C|net All :: http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.ht ... %2CWebware

Blue ;)

Let us know if you or anyone knows where to get Free Blue Ray Movie player software.... :read:

Or just GET this::

I forgot that my son has a laptop with blue-ray in it and I'll ask him what he is using.

I dunno I think Blu ray is a TAD bit of HYPE, Just what I think. HD is just fine. Blu Ray seems to me to be a Gimmick. Of sorts?

=============================

But let's get real. Outside of the protagonists and their immediate families, do you really care who comes out on top? And is there any good reason you should?

For the rest of us, it's just inside baseball, and frankly, I'm bored silly after two years of listening to claims and counterclaims. When it comes to making their case, both sides are guilty of hideous hyperbole.

Is Blu-ray better than HD DVD or vice versa? I don't know, but I'm not swayed by the opinions of experts either camp trots out to convince me. Anyway, you can buy supposedly impartial opinions 20 cents on the dollar and pawn them off as "authoritative" and "unbiased." Everybody's for sale, so buyer beware.

Just make things easy so I don't get hosed. Too many times consumer electronics companies go stone deaf after leaving their customers in the lurch. If you want my loyalty, make sure my stuff runs on a platform that won't get dumped a couple of years later. I hold grudges about that sort of thing.

Until now, I've held off upgrading to a new player because of the uncertainty over this standards nonsense. I remember VHS versus Betamax and that episode taught a valuable lesson. Nobody in their right mind wants to get stuck with a loser, so it's prudent to wait on the sidelines until things get sorted out.

When I covered sports for a living, a veteran pulled me aside on my first day and said, "There's no cheering in the press box. You cheer for the best story."

Pulling on my user hat, I'm now ready to cheer. Not because I have a vested interest in HD DVD or Blu-ray. I just want clarity. Folks, it's time to move on.

Blu-ray vs. HD DVD: I don't care who wins!

I'm waiting on Laser HD TV....myself. Not that it's in my Budget, but would be cool.

Ummm, Blue, Blue Ray won the war with HD DVD a while back. HD is dead and history. It didn't even last as long as Betamax did. ;)

Well look how LONG COLOR TV has LAST!! :9: :shock:

A bit longer than a Betamax, I'd say Chris. Go Blu-Ray if that's what you like, and as always, but what makes you Happy

nothing else matters, not my opinion, nobodies really, just you!! Bare in Mind no matter what way you go it wil be obsolete in no Time, that's a given.

Except Color TV, I highly Doubt they'll go back to B&W TV :yahoo:

Not back to black and white. 3D TV is going to be the next big thing, not for me since I am blind in one eye!
Plus Sharp TV is doing something with color, now using 4 colors to make the picture better.
I still did not get the blueray drive. I would buy new movies in it if I had the drive.
But My son and daughter have blueray movies, so if they come over to visit and want to bring a movie, I can't play it.
I am not in a big hurry, I guess I will just buy the software. The free power dvd9 the sound is only 2 way not 5.1, my TV is connected to my 5.1 system.

Power DVD has always been that way, Bill. You had to pay for the extra codec pack to get anything other than stereo sound.

Me, I'm hooked on Net Flix lately. They have a ton of movies I can watch "streaming" plus they send me the ones that I queue up in the mail (ones that they don't offer streaming) I'm not jumping on the Blue Ray wagon just yet. Players or drives are still way too expensive! :shock:
