AN-M2HD

Postby jpowell8672 » Mon Mar 09, 2009 11:50 pm

AN-M2HD X2 5000 BE 4x1gb Gskill DDR2 800 onboard 7050pv ide Benq dvdrw sata 36gb WD Raptor sata2 WD 640gb Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid

Since I updated my bios to the newest which is m628a_20.bin when I turn the computer on it turns on and off many many times then finally starts up working just fine. It does this every time you turn it on from an off state. I have tried to contact ABIT with no success. Has anyone had this problem or heard of this problem? Does anyone here have this motherboard with this bios on it that does not do this that is starting up normally when turned on? Any help would be most appreciated. :D I am new here and this is my first post. Thanks

Welcome! O.K., so the board was running good before you flashed the BIOS? After flashing, did you clear CMOS, then go into BIOS and make all the changes you needed to?

RAM timings and voltage on Abit boards is never correct with the default BIOS settings. Read this guide: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=259

How far into the boot cycle does it get before it reboots the first time you power it on? And does it keep rebooting on it's own at the same point during the boot sequence?

My AN-M2HD worked fine with the stock BIOS so I never updated it. If I remember correctly, it's been a while since the Abit Forums were shut down, but the last BIOS for that board was only to make it run a Phenom CPU, and if you didn't run a Phenom, it seriously messed up the board.

Seemed that this board needed the 19 BIOS to work correctly as the 20 was for the Phenom....I wouldnt suggest putting a Phenom on this board either.

When you flash, Do Not Do This Through Windows....Your takin a big chance there.
Make sure to CLEAR the BIOS using the CCMOS Jumper on the board before booting.

Thanks for the response. :D The last bios said it fixed virtualization error. My board originally had bios version 16 on it and I have only flashed one time to version 20. I did clear the cmos and redo all the bios settings. I was reading online that this could maybe be a pnp problem in the bios but I'm not sure. Getting in touch with ABIT is a joke. They just ignore you. Makes me question if I want to ever buy another ABIT product again. When you turn it on from an off state it literally turns on and off within a second multiple times. Not even enough time for anything to be displayed on the screen. No beeps or codes that I can hear or see. It does it different amounts of time every time you turn it on. The last time I turned it on I counted it turning on and off again 11 times then it booted up just fine. After it finally boots it works just fine and stable without any problems. I tested the power supply which tested good. It is a 350 watt dual rail which is rated one of the best micro-atx power supply's I could find from Newegg. When I flashed the bios I used these switches awdflash.exe m628a_20.bin /f /cc /cd /cp /r /py /sn if that helps any. Why did the ABIT forums shut down? Is ABIT possibly going out of business or something? Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it. :D

Bios 19 adds AM2+ support. So do you think I should go back to bios 18 before that?

BIOS 18 should be fine.

Universal Scientific bought Abit in late 2007, IIRC, and after that is was all bad. No new boards being brought to market, only a few that were already in the pre- production pipeline. Then a lot of top support and design people left Abit for different companies. Universal kept doing stuff that left all of us at the Forums wondering when the end would finally come, like not answering the phones or e-mails and RMA's that took 6 to 9 months if at all. They screwed up the Forums so that no one new could register (no one was being sent a confirmation e-mail) and then they finally pulled the plug over Thanksgiving. The existing Abit website is half broken as well.

Basically Universal bought Abit for their board fab equipment and then let them die. Mad a lot of us mad, me included. Whatever Abit boards that are out there for sale, that's it. Universal says they will provide support (RMA's basically) for 3 years. But no live tech support. That's why I started this website back in November, as a place for us from the old Abit Forums to hang out at as well as a place for folks like you to turn to.

Let us know how it's going with your board. Chris.
