BIOS hot key to change boot drives?

Postby Mr. Chris » Mon Dec 22, 2008 5:38 pm

KN9 SLI, X2 6400+ BE, 2GB OCZ Platinum, EVGA GTX260, SATA II drives: 320Gb (XP Pro) 160Gb (Vista SP2) 80Gb (Win7 MC3 pre-beta) DVD burner, CM PSU & case.

Basically is there a shortcut/ hot key that you hit during BOOT to change the BOOT drive sequence? Tired of having to enter BIOS each time to change BOOT drives. Thanks. Chris.

Reboot the computer and look at the bottom of the screen.

Chris, I don't think there is one unless they left it out of the manual. Went through the whole thing and found no mention of it ...

Chris, Greybear seems certain that one exists. So we'll assume that it has been omitted from the manual, although I hate assuming. So as he suggested check along the bottom of the screen when you boot and see if the Boot Selection Menu key is there. If all you're seeing is the Abit Splash Logo, then you may need to go into the BIOS and disable the Splash Screen first. Then you may be able to see what the correct key is. My Gigabyte with a Phoenix BIOS uses F8, other common keys to do this are F10 and F12. I googled the hell out of this one too and I'm amazed the answer is so hard to find. Let us know how you do.

Im waiting for Chris to find it. Its actually is funny, you boot the computer several times and you start forgetting that there is information on the screen during bootup.

I'll post the answer tomorrow if Chris hasnt found it.

BTW, its none of the F keys.

LOL, actually since my PC runs 24/7, and normally I just boot into whatever O/S I'm running, I never do notice. But now that I'm trying to get Win& M3 pre beta up and running, I will need to be able to change the boot order a little faster. I'll give it a try now. Chris.

Hah! It's the ESC key, gives you a boot menu, BUT, it doesn't let you select which hard drive. So I'll still have to go into BIOS and choose which hard drive I want to be the first boot drive. Oh, well, the things I do for progress. Now if I can just get Win7 to boot at all, I'll be on the road to sheer adventure! :? Chris.

Chris, have you ever read about VistaBootPro? It's suppose to work quite well and works with Windows 7. Only $9.00 as well...

As far as your boot menu goes, can't you arrow key down or tab? Then press Enter? You may also want to try the Page-up and Page-Down keys.
