New drivers refuse to install

Postby Mr. Chris » Tue Oct 06, 2009 6:53 pm

So, I'm running the 190.38's. I see finally the 191.07's are WHQL. I want to try them. BUT, I get the same bullshit runaround as I have been getting with the 190.62's, starts to install then freezes about 15% finally after 15 minutes, the installer says "the system has not been updated. Please try reinstalling later" So I restart, and try reinstalling. NOT. Installer stops and says some shit about I'm trying to run a 32 bit uninstaller on a 64 bit Windows. WTF? I click "O.K." and then in a few seconds, the installer tells me that I'm trying to install a 64 bit driver on a 32 bit O/S. :? Really? My 64 bit Win 7 isn't 64 bit? WTF? WTF? WTF?

Not a happy camper this morning (altho I did fix the dim headlight on my Z)

So, I'm gonna run CCleaner, delete any Nvidia folders with drivers in them, and try again. :|

uhm that is weird Chris i have seen this before my self and it end up being a bad down load so i had to down load from another site. but that was with a beta driver though and not a direct nvidia driver.

but i would make sure you are down loading the 64bit to be on the safe side anyways. or try another site and get them from, like uguru site and i saw that they have a xp version of the 191.07 driver now.

the 191.07 driver i am running it right now and i like it but i just wish my 285 would run the way they say it should. but that is for my other thread ...

Good grief. I filed a support request with Nvidia. Their response was, shall we say, about what I expected. :(

i bet it was a scary reply at that uh ?

well not sure what to say or do since your OS and gfx card is in the list for the driver.did you do a full uninstall of the old drivers? and got rid of all the other old drivers. since you said you had a nvidia driver folder that had a lot of other driver in it still.

which may cause such problem as this. i would use the driver sweeper and ccleaner to uninstall once more and then make sure that nvidia folder is gone in your C:\ drive since the newest driver sweeper no longer deletes this folder now i go and delete that folder my self so it is not there before i reboot and this is after i do the 1st uninstall of the original driver.and ran driver sweeper and ccleaner and then reboot and then install the driver and go from there.

Can't delete the entire Nvidia folder, the Nforce chipset drivers are in there. I don't want to FUBAR my rig!

Nvidia wants the info from msinfo32, plus screen shots of the errors. I suppose I can do that.

After I pay for the Win 7's that I pre-ordered, I may see what you are asking for that card. If you still have it. ;)

oh its all ready sold to 1 of my clan members. but uhm i may have forgotten about that stuff with nvidia chip set. but that is only to install them ya know. it does use that folder for it anything else i think? lol i would have to check my self i guess since i only have the video.

and soon i wont have any lol guess it is a good thing i got that xfx 5870 cause they sold out with in a hr of newegg having them back in stock  and 1 cool thing is it comes with DIRT2 so now i will give win7 build 7600 a try and say good by to xp . cause DIRT2 is DX11 so i got to see what DX11 looks like ya know since the 5870 is DX11 and for $379.99 and my evga 285 sc ran me $349.99

come on what the hell!! some thing here is not right ya know!! so i will check it out. and see whats up so i will save anything else out of my xp raid0 and then some time this wk format it with win7 but i got to make a disk for it 1st so yeah i got to stop playing killing floor !!

but if they want you to do that stuff then yeah do it and then see what they say after.

So I sent the msinfo32, and 2 screenshots of the installation errors, but I had to use my camera  because Gadwin didn't work while the installer was running. I'll see what they have to say.

Hell, maybe it's time to go to an ATI card. :o

Oh, and since the last uninstall, Win 7 has reverted to the 186.91's. Now nothing newer will install. Not even the 190.38's that worked before. :?

OK, 10 minutes later and I'm all done. 191.07's installed and all is good so far. Precision working fine, too.

What I had to do, and I think Scavy's said all this before, boot into Safe Mode. Go to Device Manager and uninstall graphics card drivers. Reboot back into Safe Mode. Run Driver Sweeper. Install the new drivers. Reboot and viola!

Now I need to test this driver so it's off to "test" some video games. Maybe this will help Frontlines, but maybe not.
