well my 2nd RMA card is running real good yet. i have been playing @ EVGA FTW clock speed which is 720c / 1651s / 1386m so far so good. and with my tweak auto fan setting via rivatuner all is good temp wise as well. so far max temp hasn't gone past 66c i think? and now a lot of the newest screen shot i am posting will have temp reading in the upper left hand side now. which will be the gpu and then cpu core #1 and #2 temps. since i like to know temp on both and not just 1

and since if i need to have a few app open i might as well have them sharing the same thing. rivatuner like everest and since i have everest open all the time it makes since for me to use them together. and now i even have forced nvidia control panel to have crysis and warhead to 8x on AA and AF now with this card. since it runs so good on it.

cause wow

couldn't do that on the 8800GTX at all lol.
and wow FO3 look wild

well as you can see i have been playing a lot yesterday/last night in vista even though i do have this driver in xp. but i am not sure if this occlusion stuff is in xp or not so i am not gonna go check yet till i get my fill of play here with these games i have on my plate here. which is a lot. but i have not tried them all yet. since i have not tried HAWX or GRID or Lost Planet yet.

once again email to evga tech support

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:55 pm

well day 3 with email and now phone call with a evga tech support personnel. for the same thing again. well 1/2 of what happen the last time i had problems some of you may not know what happen last time but i had a lot of problem and it was this card.

i had blue/gray/pink screens of death and games and benchmark stuttering!! well now the only thing i have is the stuttering and it is not a good thing. be it single player or multiplayer.

either way it sucks to no end let me tell ya. well so far i had to install a gfx driver i know sucks 190.62 and then i had to remove 3 or the 4 sticks of ram and to top it all off i had to put the cpu to stock speed aka 2.66ghz!

after all of that i still have the stuttering and i did remember that the 4 pin moldex plug just above the 2nd pci-e slot havent had anything plug into it and i brought that up to him. he said give that a try and see what happens.

well it did help a bit but still it is not fix i was hoping it would have been that easy but it was not to be. but he said the next thing is to test the gfx card in another system so i have a friend that got my 8800gtx he said i could test it in his to see but i need to get with him for a set time to do this.

beside all the other things i have tried to do to get rid of this gawd awful stuttering has not work yet. the tech did say that the 285 i sent in past all of there test. and that the original card i sent in, the 1 that caught on fire or went up in smoke.

he said may have cause me problems down the road somewhere like this. so maybne my psu or mobo or ram is going bad or what not. but i do know the cpu is good and the psu is good since both are new to the system since that had happen.

and the ram i am now running the new ram that i got cause at that time i was only running 4gigs of ram and i have the newest set in and now i have only 1 stick of ram installed now. but i am now looking at trying to get a abit ip35pro mobo so in case my mobo is some what damage i could swap it out and put that 1 in.

but the only thing is there aint many left out there and since ebay doesnt have many listed either so my chance of landing 1 is slim and none.

Install the 178.24 driver and see what it does.

But it definitely sounds like the card or the PSU(going bad) is bad. But try it in the friends comp...make sure his PSU can handle it....

well that driver is way to old really for my system let alone the gfx card. but the next driver i will try will be the 182.50 which so far a lot of other have gone back to since the 186/190 have not been all that.

but my psu is not the same 1 that started out from the 1st 285 i had so i am on the 2nd psu as well as the 2nd/3rd 285 now. but he is going to brings his pc over plus the old 8800gtx back over so i can try it back in my rig once again.

so i can see if anything has change since it use to be in my system.

I would not try any driver in the 182.xx or higher range personally.

Somewhere in there is a package or two that causes instability / lockups / reboots in some systems.

Scavy~

There is no need to OC your card, IMO. Leave it be. That card should handle just about anything very well.

The more you mess with it the more risk you run of damage not all cards OC well. My 260 did. But I couldn't stand the fans at 100%.

With my GTX275FTW clacked at 713, I don't touch any OCing Crap. Just let it do it's thing in AUTO mode :D

Couldn't be Happier with the card it's all I wanted and more, it's like having 2 260 Vanilla card in SLI, almost ;)

I just think keeping things Simple is best, except my CPU, I do OC it. It does great OCed but I do it in the Bios..

I hope things work out for you. I think your GTX8800 was a BAD ASS card!! Bu buying new cards is fun!! Though

you may not get what you thought? Anyhow again Best of Luck things will get worked out :9:

It takes a lot of Patience but if you stick with it you'l be a Happy Camper., IMHO.

Blue

Get a Corsair 800 wt PSU or 750 tx and you;ll be fine maybe. I could teat on my system, I know works perfect.

Then you could cross out EgGa trying to Mess with you as that's the feeling I get here. Sad, never issue one with any of my NV cards.

At least nothing I couldn't fix over the phone.

I saw this thought it was interesting,:: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=35809

Personaly when I did OC my old 260 I did it only if a Game game gave me trouble and only then, never left it at a High OC, period.

Food for thought. :banghead:

well the only time i over clock this 285 is when i went to benchmark and that is it. and i use the old gtx285 ftw clocks nothing fancy either nothing super duper over the top either.

but when ever i game or just plain at the desk top it was all ways all ways at it stock speeds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

still dont under stand why no one under stand or believes me but it is the truth i left this card at it stock clock all the time but when i benchmark and that is it Period.

and the last 285 i had it under clock 100mhz cause i had such problems but they tell me they found nothing wrong with it. so WTF!!!

it ran like shit in mine but not there. i told them build a system like mine and then tell me if it ran good or not. but they probably used a nvidia chip set mobo to test it on so it wont be the same like it is on my Intel chip set mobo.

but i will find out more after 11am or noon is more like it once i get the 285 into his pc and started up.

anyone remember my Tagan psu by chance??

i took it apart today so i could use 1 of the cables as a jumper so i could plug the 12volt into the mobo just above the 2nd pci-e slot.

the 1st thing i see when i took the top cover off of the psu is that the fan that didnt work WAS NOT PLUG IN!!! and then the 4 screws that held the psu to the case WAS NOT IN THERE AT ALL THEY WHERE GONE!!

and then i found a big capacitor was smashed !!! and they tell me it work when it left there??!! I DONT THINK SO !!!

i will never buy a TAGAN power supply ever again

Well I think it's safe to say the issue is the PSU. ;) An unsteady stream of power to your GFX card will cause shuddering. Yep.

yeah i know thats why it is now sitting in a bunch of pc and now i was just trying to send a email back to Tagan and there email server wont take it at all !! WTF!

go figure uh im glad i will stick with OCZ since they have not fk me over yet on my psu. which in fact is still holding 12v+ on its 2 - 12v rails yet. accordingly to everest so far and it is about 2 yrs old now so yeah it has beaten the Tagan psu with flying colors so far since it died twice with in a 1 1/2yr!!
