need help on over clocking a Q9450 on a IP35 pro

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Sun Sep 06, 2009 4:41 pm

well i got it in with the new bios #17 and so far so good at stock clocks.i tried to bring the volt on the cpu as my friend said he had it set to which was 1.38 volts. but he said he left the rest alone. so with the fsb set to 450 x 8 and ram 1:1.00

which would keep the 8gigs of ram from killing the system like it has done before. oh the cpu is a C1 stepping according to everest .this bios #17 has some new settings and some now have auto in front of it when before it didnt.

well i was wondering if anyone that has or had this mobo with a quad core or something close to what i have now could lend me a hand in over clocking it. i will get some pictures of the volt pages so you can see what i have for settings and such and the main uguru page as well and all sub pages there of.

to help in figuring in getting this thing over clocked. and then maybe finding it max over clock as well like a 4ghz if it is possible like i had with my dual core. which would be used for benchmarking only like before.

any help or link to what i need will be appreciated

Just a thought is this your first OC? Guess not, judging from your avatar? Back in Viaarena, there was a guy by the nick of Jomo which is good in OC, my first attempt of OC was tip by him.

lol yeah i know. what i 1st tried didnt seem to work even after i tried to up the volt on everything else by 1 and it still didnt seem to work. maybe i need to find what he did on his. even though he has a 790i digital so yeah different beast but maybe i can figure something between the 2.

but i was wondering if someone else has gone threw this before with a quad and maybe give me some pointers since i am still new to over clocking yet. the E6850 is the 1st cpu i have ever over clock yet.

I'll send a PM to Chuck at The Raptor Pit since he made that other Topic here about the IP35. Chris.

thanks Chris

i was going to try a difference fsb but i cant try x9 at all it only goes to x 8 !! WTF

when i had bios #14 i could and now with this bios #17 it only goes to x 8 so now i cant try what i was going to do. i was over at xtreme system forum and the topic about the abit IP35 Pro they was chatting about a bios #18 ?

i didnt see any link to it at all so i couldnt down load it and give it a try and see if i could see if the multiplier had a x9 in it. i saw chuck over there in that thread as well i wonder if he would help out here to cause i would like to clock this up some and maybe see what 4ghz on a quad on this mobo is all about.

but right now this bios 17 doesnt have a multiplier past 8 at all so i am stuck there. so right now i am trying to get some kind of over clock going. found someone over at xtremesystems on the abit IP35 Pro thread with the same cpu and i used there same setting. OCCT didnt like it 1 bit on my system.

so now i am trying to get a 3.2ghz oc to work which isnt to radical. but still no luck at all there either. but i got room to play there so far my setting i am starting off with is:
400 x8 = 3.2ghz
ram 1:1.20=960 (may bring that down some more)
cpu - 1.32
cpuvtt - 1.16
mch - 1.33
ich - 1.05
ichio - 1.55

stock is
334 x 8 = 2.67ghz
1:1.25=835
cpu - 1.25
vtt - 1.1
mch - 1.25
ich - 1.05
ichio - 1.50

so i am trying to figure it out from here and from my C2D setting to see how much farther i need to go. my friend said all he he had to do was increase the cpu voltage and the fsb and he was basically done, i think is what he said. i might try and call him to make sure that was all he did.

I see a BIOS 18 available at ABIT GLOBAL:

http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/download ... YPE=LGA775

I'm surprised that place is still there!
Flash to that one.
Don't flash it overclocked.
Clear CMOS when you are done.
Boot up, LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS, SAVE & EXIT.
Go back in, set your BOOT ORDER and memory modules to their correct timings and voltage.
Report back.

IIRC, Q9450 is an X8 max multi.

hiya Chuck, and thanks for the link

so you think that bios 18 would be better over all then bios 17 ?

it sucks that this cpu is a multiplier x8 only though. makes it harder to over clock then i see. right now i am working on upping the cpu voltage as i type this. so it would be stable in OCCT since it keeps error out with 1 of the cpu cores right now. so that is why i am going up 1 tenth of a volt at a time on it..

i am at 1.35 volts on the cpu right with the rest of the voltages i listed before for the 3.2ghz over clock. since i figure that would be a more easier clock to reach at 1st since it is my 1st quad core over clock to do.

so i am going back and forth over my 6850 clocks and the stock clock of this 9450 to see if there is something i can work out between them ya know. which where i came up with a starting point with clock and voltages right now.

recapp the bios 18 is a better choice for me then over the bios 17 Chuck?

Nah though i'm not a expert in OC but i've been there, done and work. Other than upping the voltage you need to disable stuff like CIE, EIST and locked the PCIE @ 100, (so far this is what i can recall, ;)) next run prime 95 and stress test your rig/OC, is not just blindly upping the voltage, try lowering or upping it till it run smoothly while running prime 95, upping too much voltage would causes heat and might kill your rig or hardware

Bear in mind during the process of OC or stress test is normal to encounter blue screen or crashes, just clear cmos and start everything from scratch if you encounter that

yeah i know and i use OCCT since it has it own monitoring software and this new version 3.1.0 can test the gpu as well and psu to. but right now the cpu test is still going right now on the 3.2ghz clock i got set up. which i set it up for 1hr and so far temps havent gone past 37C on any othe 4 cores so thats not to bad.

and i just open up the window that sit right next to my case and put a fan in it to blow more cold outside air onto my case and radiator. so now temps are down to 34C lol but it is still in the middle 60F here yet.and my room is still at 76F so it is cooler air outside over all.

but yeah i all ways test my over clock to make sure they are stable before i do anything else. cause that would make games and windows buggy as well and i dont need any more of that add into what i got going on all ready lol.

right now settings are:
400 x 8 1:1.00 = 800
cpu - 1.35
vtt - 1.13
mch - 1.33
ich - 1.05
ichio - 1.55

and yes i have all of the cpu stuff disabled anyways all ways have for the last 2 yrs now with no problems.
