now have 8gigs of 1066 ram

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 6:24 am

ok i have 1 slight problem and i guess it has to do with my over clock now. the 3.8ghz that i have gotten to be very stable and rock solid. but now with the new 4gig i just add and i have ran a memtest on it for over 2hrs. with no error at all. and i am in vista right now till i get this figured out and test some games with 8gigs of ram. ok now for the pic of what i have for bios setting, in case none knows what they look like.
here is some pictures of what i have for bios settings, and they are what i have mine set to.

which has been rock solid for the last yr+ since i built it. but my troubles just started with this extra 4gigs of ram.

and here is the rest of my bios settings for my over clock i have.

i hope these pictures will help you in helping me. since what i have for bios settings are different then what most have and since i have a Intel chip set this is what i am stuck with.
\
doh i hit the submit in stead of the preview lol. well as for right now i am at stock clocks/bios setting for the cpu. the only thing that is still set is the timings and voltage for the ram. which right now the timings are 5x5x5x18, and whats on the ram is this 5x5x5x15. and the voltage is at 2.150 which i have had it set to that since soon after i got this set up running. which is a yr now so far so good. but i will leave this like this till i find out more info. i also have a thread over at acktheramguy.com as well for this.

i hope to get some good answers or help to get me into the right direction.

Cant help you.

But reading your post, I guess I missed what your problem is.

I also thought of the MCH voltage upping when you have four slots in use.

well the problem i have or had. is that after installing the new 2 stick of ram. bringing my total ram to 8129mb . i did not back down my over clock at all. i left it alone. and in doing so i had trouble in boot up and then blue screens. i then only installed the 2 new sticks of ram and ran memtest. to make sure they were after good. in which after it ran for over 2hrs with no error.

so after talking to my clan leader/friend he told me i had to run at stock cpu settings. since that what he did when he went from 2 gig to 4 gigs of ram. and then he had to redo his over clock for the extra ram. now i have done the same thing now. i went back to stock cpu speed and voltages. all but for the ram voltage i left at 2.150v . and now i have just redid my over clock.

so far so good but i still have some testing to do yet.

First off, if you aren't running 64 bit Windows, the advantages of 8Gb RAM is ?????????

Second, if you did not buy all 8Gb as a matched set, I would expect that you will have issues with booting up an over clocked system. Chris.

Hopefully they are at least all the same chips. As in pull them and verify they all have the same setup and markings.

Its hard to purchase memory at different times and get them to work 100% correctly. But iif you added 2 sticks to 2 of the same sticks, youll definitely need an MCH boosting.

As Chris mentioned, without using a 64bit OS, youve wasted money on ram that will not be utilized.

well as i have both OS installed. so i can have full use of the 8gigs of ram. but in XP 32bit i know i won't have full use of it but it won't hurt my system either. since i have been down the road for the discussion of 4gigs of ram with xp32bit. but like i have in my sig is what i have total. and since i do have DX10 games, i will put them on my vista 64bit only OS. and anything else that does not have DX10 , will all go to XP 32bit. but as i stated before right now all seems good and no problems right now. and yes i am in XP right now typing this. since i have some more testing to do. since i want it to be stable in both OS .

I know that this has nothing to do with topic. Yes it nice that a lot us run vista 64bit and can run 8gb of ram. But the only problem I see is the games them self. It would be nice to see the games run in the 64bit side of vista. I only had one game load into the 64bit programs file and everything else has loaded into the 32bit programs file. That game was Hellgate London. I think and I might be wrong but I feel that the games would run better in 64bit with DX10. Don't go by Hellgate London that was bad from the start. Here we have OS 64bit and almost everything runs at 32bit. Here it is almost been two years and they have what 1or 2 games that can run with DX10 loaded.  I think that is very sad. :(

yes it is sad to see that not many games yet will play and or run in 64bit. and that would be the true way of fully using a system to its fullest. but 64bit os has been out for a long time. since i do have xp 64bit but the disk i have is bad. since it seem i all ways had troubles with it. in 1 way or another some thing was wrong with it. and most of it was for sound drivers, well i thought it was.

till the end of last yr and beginning of this yr.i had it installed maybe 6+ times. and the last time i had it and on very 1st reboot. ya know during the format of it i got a blue screen which was some thing i had to deal with a lot. so now i have 4 disk of OS . i have 2 xp pro 32bit sp2 and 1 of xp pro 64bit. and then i have 1 of xp home 32bit. and then vista ultimate 64bit to top it off with. since now i have 2 pc left and they are both 64bit mobo.

but i think i may want till window 7 to go 64bit in both 24/7 ya know. but i hope there will be more games before then that are more able to go 64bit plus DX10 as well. i know crysis has this as well. since you can go into it and there is 2 exe 1 is 32bit and the is 64bit. if you got that game go and find it. i think there is a way of having it load up in 64bit via a short cut tweak. not sure but i do not have that game.

With Hellgate london I could run the 32bit game in the 64bit game file. You open your Hellgate London DVD and copy the "SP _x86" (single player 32 bit) and/or "MP _x86"(multi player 32 bit) folder from your Hellgate DVD to the same directory where you installed the game. Put the folders in the same directory where you see the "MP _x64" and "SP _x64" folders. After you do this you can simply launch the exe in the _x86 folders and it should work. The only reason I did this was that I was using a cheat and it would not run in the 64bit game.

oh ok, well HGL is one game i never did buy. but i did try the demo out once. but i to was not impressed by it either. far cry 2 is a good game and running it in dx10. and so far is the only dx10 game that does not bring your system down to its knee's ! but i have notice my other games running even better now since i have gone to 8gigs. but i have tried to tighten up the ram timings but so far it does not like to at all. maybe if i had a mobo that had a nvidia chip set and memory controller it might.

but i do not for see me buying a new mobo just so i could do that. but if i did i could get another 8800gtx and go SLI which over will make games run even better. and then i would have to go and get another arctic cooling vga cooler. like the 1 i got now which is a killer vga cooler. this cooler just plain rocks!!
