Must be for all versions, I got my update last night as well. Seems like it's a big security update. FF gave me a security warning this morning about a media player that ABC.com wants me to use to play it's TV shows thru Hulu, also blocked the download of that media player! :shock: Not sure what's up with that stuff anyways. Otherwise, FF seems fine. Chris.

I hear ya Chris~

I get little Flash updates, from FF, from time to time, Security updates, FF pops up a message to click on if I want to see what they

are doing, but it's fast, and sometimes I just look at it and think, "Whatever" probably just downloading Viruses, LOL!! :mrgreen:

Click here it says, by the time I get around to clicking it, it's done and gone. I could turn off auto FF updating, I guess, so I don't miss anything.

The one you gotta watch is "Double Click" it's a Tracking Cookie that some site through at you, though I ran Spybot S&D last night and I don't have it.

I have seen it before though, it doesn't Hurt your PC other than it watches where you surf. I suggest Running CCleaner daily, it's the Best free app

ever!! Best Reg Cleaner in it too. After you un-install a app, it always (usually) leaves an entry in your Registry, these build up and will slow down your

PC.

Link:: http://www.ccleaner.com/

I'm going to donate to the site too, that's how much I like it. Awesome, must HAVE PC tune-Up Tool!! The BEST. :9:

Image

Want a CLEAN PC, use Crap Cleaner 'Nuff Said. Image

Blue

Piriform also offers a FREE defrag App, works great, faster than Vista'a Builkt in one, called Defraggler

Link:: http://www.defraggler.com/

Image

I use Auslogic Defragger, it's Uber Fast!! My personal Favorite!! Link :: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/di ... g/download

Don't pay much attention when it tells you, "You have XXX Junk files, that's just to get you to buy other Junk File cleaner which if you use

CCleaner, you don't need. Run CCleaner, then run Auslogig Defrag, you should see it say you have like 300 junk files, hell just connect to

the Internet and you'll have a gang of Temp files in about 2 hours, or less, if you do any surfing at all.

Also Recuva - File Recovery is another great App :: http://www.recuva.com/

Keep your PC Clean and Happy!! :yahoo: Oh I read that MAC sales are down now too, off topic here, so they are firing up

their "I'm a MAC" ads like CRAZY again, paid for by their iphone sales etc, that actually sells a lot. MAC makes little from it's PC Sales Division.

Yes a MAC is a PC, Personal Computer, they'd like you to think otherwise, but no, it's a PC too.

Oh and they DO GET VIRUSES as well, so that's a BIG A$$ bold faced Lie!! :rant: :rules:

This GUY is a UBER GEEK, but knows what he's talking about!!

SPEED UP FIREFOX!! NOW!!

Postby BlueMonster » Thu May 07, 2009 11:45 pm

You want Firefox to RIP do exactly what this guys says!! :9:

He's a Senior Editor from C|net and Knows his Sh1t!!

Everything he says makes Great Sense, and if your like me,

you learn best with a Visual, example (vid)

I'm leaning FF very Well now, and it is a Memory HOG!!

But you can fix that, watch this vid do what he say and you'll

be flying!!

c|net Vid :: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZUN-BwiKXQ

Image

Enjoy!! One thing I do is not have FF save your Downloads,

have FF save them to YOUR desktop then you decide which

to keep and which to Ditch, saving a Million Downloads bogs down FF Big time.

IMHO also Go Lean as you can with your Add-On/Extensions, also a Memory HOG.

Do these Very Simple things and you'll be Glad you did!!

Microsoft Sticks Security Hole in Firefox

Postby honestjohn » Mon Jun 01, 2009 1:24 pm

This happened a while ago, but I guess I missed it. A surprise gift from Microsoft to all who use Firefox. It looks like they slipped in an Add-on that I didn't ask for. Funny, I saw it there before but thought it was something I did.

http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/13962/1/

How did it do that

A security update for a Microsoft Windows component installed on tens of millions of computers has quietly installed an extra add-on for Mozilla's Firefox Web browser.

It all started earlier this year, when Redmond shipped a bundle of updates known as a "service pack" for a programming platform called the Microsoft .NET Framework. The service pack for the .NET Framework, like other updates, was pushed out to users and apparently it automatically installed its own Firefox add-on that is difficult if not dangerous to kill.

According to Annoyances.org, "this update adds to Firefox one of the most dangerous vulnerabilities present in all versions of Internet Explorer: the ability for Web sites to easily and quietly install software on your PC."

While it is not quite as doomsday as that, it might be pretty annoying for those anti-internet exploder issuers to find that their beloved Firebadger has been stroked by the hand of Steve Ballmer. To make matters worse Microsoft has disabled the "uninstall" button on the extension and the only way to fix it is to modify the Windows registry.

The question is why Microsoft did not run the add-on like every other company in the world through the Mozilla site. Then it would be honest, and not sail up anyone's nasal passages. However as it is it must make some people wonder if they can trust Redmond to install security patches that will not interfere with other aspects of their machines.

You're welcome Chris, I did the same. I only had "general.useragent.extra.microsoftdotnet" listed in my Firefox config. This one was not present under my setup "microsoft.CLR.clickonce.autolaunch".

Just started using Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 today and so far so good and is even working a little snappier then the official version was for me. They added a new-tab button to the right as well so no add-on required anymore. For those that don't have an aversion to Betas here it is ...
