my server rig in trouble & i figured it out mostly

Postby SCAVENGER1 » Wed Jan 27, 2010 3:48 pm

well after early last yr i reformat it trying to see if it would help it. it would run slow and the mouse pointer would skip/stutter across the screen with nothing running or extra that is.

but about 4 to 5 months ago for some unknown reason it lost all window sounds and some other OS stuff.

like i couldnt install java or some other items or uninstall them, and i have no idea what happen either.

but just last wk i was clicking on the google ads here and found this 1 called reimage.com

it said it could fix your system for a price and the scan is free but it would not tell you what was wrong with it in total.

but it would give you the high lights of what is good and what was bad and compared it to globally as well.

it found that beside the software issues i was having i all so had a hardware issue as well mostly the hard drive.

it told me that it was running slow like less then 2mb or slower. so i found HD tune 4.01 and this is what it showed me

all so it said it could be cause by a bad cable which i did replace and even though i was hoping it did not fix it either.

Image

but the reimage program cost $47.95 for 1 repair which i did cause i really did not want to do another format yet at least not on this 1.

since it has email on it and raven shield server on it beside the game. which i may not even put back on it if i cant get it fix over all.

but i paid for 1 repair and after about 1 1/2hr and it does a reboot to it work!

it fix dam near everything but the hard drive problem. i now have full window sounds and anything i couldnt install or uninstall was fix.

so in the end it save me a format for now. but after finding out that my hard drive is at the main cause of my stutters and slow downs.

i ran the new seagate desk top tools 1st 1 was via boot up and floopy disc and i ran the long test which it past.

so i tried the other 1 which you run while in windows and it to past which is weird since i have 2 other programs telling me the drive is faulty.

Image

so only thing i can do know is try to get a hold of seagate tech and see what they say about this.

and i hope they can just fix the drive and send it back to me so it would save me from doing a format but i know with my luck... it wont happen.

anyone else herd of this happening with a drive before?

That is what I call a "double edged sword", Scavy. For the price you paid for the program to see what's wrong with the PC, you could have bought a new 500Gb drive and be done. ;)

yeah i know but this drive is still under warranty and till may of 2011 so i dont need to buy another drive. but it does give me more info on what is wrong since seagate tools shows nothing is wrong with it but 2 other programs do.

but like i stated before i need to call and find out if they can repair the drive so it will save me a format since i am tired of doing so. since i dont think anyone or anyone's have formatted as much as i have in the last yr. i would need more then both hands and feet to put it that way. and that is on my main rig with everything that is going on with it.

but it is good now cept for vista but i am still thinking of getting rid of it but since it is the only way i can play avatar i need it yet.

well Reimage email me back with some more thing to try out. 1st it was to see what my drive was running at DMA/PIO which was ask here before.

well they had me check it out and it was set to PIO which i have no idea why or how it got switch to.

well it is now switch back to Ultra DAM mode now and the drive is pulling 30mb.

compared to 2mb or less as before that is a big difference!! i still dont know why or how it got switch to PIO mode :?

i made sure that the slave drive was all so showing DMA mode so i did the same thing to it as well.

which was uninstall the driver for that device and when it reboots it will install the driver and then reboot for it to take effect.

well so far this pc is working faster then it has in well over a yr now. and all it took was switching it back to DMA mode

well i learn something new today and the tech from Reimage is helping me with this as well.

so far that is a good place with good tech support i would say. so far the only problem i have is that i no longer can play certain video files on this pc now.

there is some codex files missing and 1 of them is AVI since that is what my DVR for my security cameras uses.

i did try and reinstall the software for the DVR but that did not help at all so now that is the next step. but i ran HD tune and it still shows i have 1 problem with the drive yet.

that is this -(C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count 200 DATA 1 Status = Warning

not sure what to make out of it and since i all ready swap out the cable for it. unless the cable i put in is all so bad 8O

if that is the case i do have a few more i even have the stock ASUS ribbon cables that have never been used.

or the 1 from my abit and gigabyte mobo as well lol. even though i prefer round cables since they take up less room and are easier to work with.

and since it looks like this inside i need all the room i can get
