Just copying the Steam folder will not copy the save games, because they are in different places. Every game is different, depends on the game itself. Got that reply from Steam them selves (but doesn't mean that particular "support person" didn't know their butt from a hole in the ground) All that does is save you from re-downloading all those games again. And that in itself is worth the 30 minutes or so, right? Chris.

But no Publishers seem to care they want to spread the Damn Save game files all over you HDD, it's crazy, Steam should keep theirs in Steam apps always, a back up in the folder I mention above would be great too.

I wrote to steam Support and have been, they said the way I dropped the folder in my Formatted drive is fine but suggested doing this::

This rebuilds your account, and you (at least I didn't lose anything) wont lose nothing but built up Junk you never use anyhow.

I'm currently having in dept discussion with Steam tech Help Desk, and well keep you guys posted, doing what they said here Steam

is rebuilt, is short, your account is rebuilt. Something I'd suggest doing to anyone with a Steam account. Unless your running Win88 or something? LOL!!

Blue

I'll keep you guys posted. The biggest issue they have is Hijacked accounts, sad. :banghead:

It has nothing to do with my saved games, HJ, I can't get Fallout3 to run ;)

The method described above is to rebuild your Steam Folder is all. Even if I had my save game folder which mysteriously disappeared, that would

have no effect on FO3 running or not, it's not the save Game files I'll looking into, it's fixing my game FO3, I think if I just start a new game that will work.

However while I'm at it I'm finding more stuff out just got some new emails from Steam will report more later.

Everything else is just fine. :D

Blue

I guess I was not clear enough, sorry about that. :read:

I don't see how this will help you with your saved games if this is your goal? All this will do is salvage the Steam folder and rebuild the program so you don't have to downloaded everything again possibly.

Correct Chris...

Fallout 3 is running again and running like a SWISS WATCH :yahoo:

So Happy, I don't know if Steam fixed it, I fixed it or what but it's running on Ultra High Setting with absolutely NO LAG!!

I'll hook up with my Bud here you know who you are and we'll work on some save game stuff, though starting it from the

Beginning is AWESOME too!! :beg:

Blue, so far I have found all the saves in either "Users> Chris> My Documents" or in "Steam> Steam Apps> (game name)" . Since I don't have FO3, I can't help anymore on that. Chris.

OMG!! I have been gone for a year, but I left my PC, as it was, with Steam on autopilot

and lone and behold, Steam popped right up, as soon as I got back on-line today

Why it was like magic!! :band: So cool how it just stayed connected, sort of, well it

wanted to load anyway, it asked me if I wanted to play off-line, I said no and just waited to

be back on-line, as soon as I was (today) it fired right up, no issues at all. I was expecting

some problems from my Steam server, but was very happy it just worked.

Then again I didn't format. I'll have to look at my own post to figure it out now, when I do format

Why do you need to reformat or even install w7 again- just update w7 and the sp1 it came out a few months ago. Works fine for me- it will save a folder incase you do have probs so you can fall back. I kept mine for like a month no probs and deleted it its like 92mbs.

You say format?- what install w7 again- if so why?

All you should have to do is run your system and update your lan- w7 installs the lan when you install the os- Id let it w7 update it lan if it wants too- sound and vid card should be fine. You only have to update the vid and sound if it has probs- and let all your programs and windows update- run some security scans and defrag is it.. W7 runs pretty clean- I do not know maybe your system has been off all this time so it should be good to go- just need some updates is it?

Hope so any way..

Erik~

I'm just saying sooner or later I'll rebuild my system, have new hard drives etc.

So I'll format my old ones, use them as external units perhaps. I like to format

every couple years ;) Get rid of everything start with a clean W7 install. Trust me,

that won't be for a while have to save up, you know the drill. Your right though W7 is a awesome

OS, better than XP in my book :9: W7 is smart, it will get recent drivers installed, all I do is install my vid drivers

Sound is up to date, lan, everything. Not sure what drv I should use for my gtx275 ftw card? :?:

I looked at nv drivers, and most of the new drivers are for the newest nv gfx cards, not mine

I left having a state of the art system and come back to an out of date system, not to bad though.

So how ya been, mr Erik?? :o

I am pretty good blue thanks for asking..

I am using precision 2.0.1 and nv drivers 260.99 and runs well for me- a lot of the newer drivers are more for the 400 or 500 cards me thinks.. I read w7 runs more clean and not so much needed to reformat and install windows again like older versions- many save image of his drive and reinstall the os from it. I am not sure if the image needs to be the same size as the drive partition or not which for me would be 250 gigs for my c drive- I do not have enough storage just for a 250 image. So when ready I will do it the old way I just built it in dec 2010 or so so I have another 1 1/2 years before I worry on that tho. I like w7 for gaming but w7 is more glitchy than xp imo- I might like xp a lil more still but w7 is not bad at all- I like it and learn a lot and more and more every day. I build and tweak my own and have to figure out my own probs- All my games run and well so. I read others have lots of probs- I have very few and is stupid lil w7 glitchy stuff. I am happy with my new rig tho- get me a better vid card maybe a oc it will be great. Maybe some new games to boot- bliss Ha ha ha ha

Stupid lil stuff install stalker- but patches will not install unless move them to my e storage drive type silly chit- took me 17 hours to figure that one out. Now all patches if download exe or have them on my external drives I put them on my storage drive first then install them- nip it before it starts. W7 can do silly stuff sometimes- I like it tho.. W7 and codecs are more trouble than xp also for videos what ever..

My os just got sp1 a few months ago- I was reading in 1 of your posts you are using sp2? maybe that was a pre version of the os or another version- mine is hpu? I thought sp1 is the only and first sp update or is the only 1 w7 has prompted me on?

I was just at the pit and looking at a over clock guide for my type cpu but it was for a 760- mine is 750 so I am not sure what setting changes id have to make- but is other guides for my cpu and straight up over clock right 4 gigs off the bat and test and see if all good. Might have to up vcore a lil maybe mem voltage- But I have been told this mem over clocks great at stock v of 1.5v. Some mem can act stupid if up voltage or much on it- but to these are 4 gig stix kit 8 gig total.

I am not ready to worry on oc yet- I still like to read on it from time to time. I see few folks post at the pit or in gaming anyway. I started a lot of the game threads before my ban. I go there some times just to read and what some of my old buds are doing these days- I always liked wizz and some others and some folks at abit was very helpful and knew what they was talking about when trying to help. Maybe not so at msi site.. It games really well- dx10 can stress my old card a lil- and more heat- I up fan speeds some its all good tho.. Cant max everything with the old card my 88 does pretty dam good tho.. Which you know me I stay on top of it and built my bud dan 1 near just like mine. It is threads and photos in tech area section.. Was supposed to service his rig today but waiting on the [trees] man 024~ ha ha..

By the way- your system is fine and has lots of life left in it and just like it is- a dx11 vid card maybe is about it bub. Maybe a ssd if talking drive for your os and put the other for storage- them 2 changes are the best things you can do or might worry on- but ssd have a short life remember that.. I would not sweat the rest..

Maybe if you have all the dlc's for borderlands we can co op sometimes maybe get scavy to play with us also. I/we have lots of great gear- happy to share with ya. Videos in the borderlands thread. Me and scavy hook up sometimes but he has other games he plays a lot or at times so..

I really am glad you are back bud- Hope you are well and the wing doing ok- family good and all that stuff.. :D :9:
