Mr. Chris wrote:Hmmmm. Maybe I'll uninstall Steam, delete the folder and do it like Blue suggested. Because I don't look forward to starting all my games over, and I'll be damned if I can find the save games in some of these games. FC2 was fine but the rest, *sigh*. It should only take an hour. Then I'll have to fix this Thread to show Blue's suggestion instead of my lame n00b one. :P Chris.

You still need to track down the saved games if you want to use them and copy them over. Copying the Steam Folder just makes it easier so you don't have to download the games again or use the Steam Backup option. Unless I misunderstood your post.

Now I'm confused. Blue said in his Post: "Click on the Steam Icon there and Boom your right where you left off. Works perfect for me. ;) " which leads me to believe that you can pick up where you where at in the games? Or just that you have all the games that were installed before? Which is what I have now just not the save games. :? Chris.

That's correct. Saved games are still scattered and need to be restored to original location after yu install your new OS.

See screenshots below. Dark Sector and Crayon Physics Demo are Steam Games. My Saved Games are located find here under Roaming. You should also look under Local as well...

(Steam Games) Fallout 3, FarCry 2, and Virtual Families (kids game) I find here and here .......

Well the way I do it works, Graet and is Super fast to do. I'm no Steam Expert by a long shot, IMO, Steam has the worst Customer Support I've seen, ok close enough.

My problem now is that FO3 won't launch at all, the reason being I believe is I installed it originally in GFW (Games foe Windows) which is a Complete Joke, IMO again.

So I don't have GOW(s) installed on my new Formatted drive, wondering if I need to anyone?? Answers??

What I don't get for the LIFE of me is why Steam spreads it's save game files all over your (my) PC, they can be in Rosmim App dats, My Documents (now just Documents)

and why did the get rid of my thios or that, like MY COMPUTER ?? What was wrong with that?

ALL STEAM GAME SHOULD ALL BE IN YOUR STEAM FOLDER PERIOD!! I Google where Steam keeps Fallout 3's Save files all night, and got many different responses, I use

the word Vista to be safe, as XP does everything different too. Windows (MS) is trying like Hell to shove Games for Windows LIVE down our throats. it just makes things more confusing

and was designed to let MP gamers play with 360 guys, visa versa. Lame!! I don't want to play with anyone that doesn't run their games on a PC, end of story.

If I had a 360 I'd play with 360 folks not PC folks, it's beyond me.

So Fallout 3 want to start and will I'm sure if I uninstall it and start a new hgame. I looked in all the locations that were suggested, like what HJ was saying tried that too.

WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY TO REINSTALL STAEM AND HAVE IT WORK JUST LIKE IT USED TOO?

There's no answers for that either, just a bunch of Crap. Steam doesn't even know, it appears. Well sorta?

So I'm not going to sweat FO3 I'll just start a new game, kinda want to start it over anyhow.

IOt just seems that this whole thing shold be a Priority at Steam, but nope, mostly member feedback is all you get.

I love Steam, but I hate it too. I just want all my save games in the Game folder that I'm using, Fallout3's save games should be in the Fo3 Folder, easy stuff.

Oh Dark Sectors was simple to find but not where it should be (in my Steam folder).

The whole registry thing makes no sense either, Steam is Stand alone. Should not even be part of the registry, I don't know. SIN works great L4D works Great, all of my games work great, but FO3

it's all wonky, GFW, is the Culprit IMHO. F%$K GFW. Stupid, Stupid, STUPID!! LOL!!

When Steam works right it's great, but when it gets wonky it's a real PAIN. :banghead:

You can do it the Steam way if ya want, have fun. HJ is right though you have to track down your saved game folders, which is just INSANE!!

Here's the Proper Steam Method, I guess?? LOL!! :D

Blue your Fallout 3 Saved Games aren't in your My Games Folder like in the screenshot I posted above? It's in the same location for me under Vista as well as WIn7.

Edit:

Just had another thought Blue. Search your entire drive using Windows search including Hidden Folders and non-indexed files for the file called " Fallout3.ini " . This should be where your FO3 saved games are. Just had another thought as well. Before searching goto Folder Options and check "Show Hidden Files and Folders" ...

Thanks HJ~

I did all that, it's nowhere, and I have my whole old Blue user folder and checked the rest too. In that area folder(s)

no Fallout3, the one folder they have in there that should be all saved games or a copy is called Saved Games!!

Totally Empty, LOL, that's what I mean I just think all save games should be in one Damn place, which reminds me I

have to check my mail and see if Steam has anything to say I doubt it, so I'm gonna search though WIN7 as well, as Fallout

3 played from it too. I think all it did was link to my Steam Folder on Vista though, not sure, I'm on it, or not, really don't care much

anymore, I'll start a new game, after I play SIN again, but Drpping my Steam Folder right into my Formatted drive does work,

at least I know that much, it's in the registry as well. I read on Steam that lots of folks are having issues with there latest update too.

After I'm done with SIN as I said, I might uninstall Steam altogether and start over. Steam has always suck after a format. Kinda.

Blue

Like my Brother always says, it's not the end of the world, besides it's all temporary until I get my final WIN7 release from the Egg,

with any luck I'll have enough $$ in my account to cover it and Wolfenstein!! LOL!! :D

Steam works fine all in all, just the save games, be sure you take the time to find the ones ya care about. Or just start over mo biggy.

I have District 9 on my mind a lot more than Steam. ;)

:yahoo:

EDIT:: Bottom Line, I forgot to save my Fallout3 save game folder, my mistake, nothing else.

Fallout3 runs like a TOP and I have some save game files to use if I want, a good friend sent them to me. :9:

Everything works great no issues here. ;)

Found my Mass Effect save games. Users> Mr.Chris> My Docs> Bio Ware> Mass Effect> Save. Copied the Save folder to the new ME1 install and works fine.

Far Cry 2 was: Program Files> Steam> Steam Apps> Far Cry 2> Saved games (or with the 64 bit Win 7 it's Program Files (x86))

Still working on Alpha Prime. Chris.

Thanks Chris, you may now just have explained why I remembered Steam keeping it's games in the SteamApps folder at one time. I thought Steam may have relocated the saved games files during an update. I guess it was when I moved from Vista 32 to Vista 64 the the location changed. Under Vista 64 my saved games are in the same location as under Windows 7 64. So if you're using 32-bit Windows OS I guess Steam will keep the saved games in the SteamApps Folder and if you're using a 64-bit OS they're scattered to the wind.

I don't have any Steamed saved games in the Programs (x86) folder under Windows 7 64, they're all in these locations for me ...

C:\Users\%Username%\Documents
C:\Users\%Username%\Documents\My Games\

C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\
C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\

The only games I have in the Programs (x86) Folder are NON-Steam Games.

No wonder everyone is so confused.

Obviously a Standardized Game File location is badly needed Vista has a Folder just for that in user accounts (your name).

But no Publishers seem to care they want to spread the Damn Save game files all over you HDD, it's crazy, Steam should keep theirs in Steam apps always, a back up in the folder I mention above would be great too.

I wrote to steam Support and have been, they said the way I dropped the folder in my Formatted drive is fine but suggested doing this::

Image

This rebuilds your account, and you (at least I didn't lose anything) wont lose nothing but built up Junk you never use anyhow.

I'm currently having in dept discussion with Steam tech Help Desk, and well keep you guys posted, doing what they said here Steam

is rebuilt, is short, your account is rebuilt. Something I'd suggest doing to anyone with a Steam account. Unless your running Win88 or something? LOL!!

Blue

I'll keep you guys posted. The biggest issue they have is Hijacked accounts, sad. :banghead:

I don't see how this will help you with your saved games if this is your goal? All this will do is salvage the Steam folder and rebuild the program so you don't have to downloaded everything again possibly.
