Got me a gaming router!

Postby Mr. Chris » Mon Jan 26, 2009 3:10 am

One of the customers at the video store where I work runs a bunch of servers (San Pedro.com). He bought this http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=371&#DGL-4100 but then it wouldn't work with FTP fro some reason, so he got a Linksys . I got it for $50 basically new. This is a nice router. I have my port set up as the gaming port (of course) lowest ping on ET:QW I have ever had.

Now I just need to replace the 8 port switch in my room for a Gigabit switch. It's a 10/100 now. Chris.

hey the Dlink dgl4100 is a great router for sure. since i have had 1 since 2007... and since 2 of my pc have giganet i can run files between them really fast. and i love how easy it is to set up for port forwarding and such. and yes alot of games ports are stored in it all ready. another great plus i would say.

Thanks Blue. Just for the record though I am busted now as I always am. I just used Ebay again to turn "stuff" into Paypal Dollars spendable at Newegg. Sold my GTX 260 plus some Twilight Zone DVD's gathering dust for a total of $363.00 and took advantage of the Newegg $30 off Promo for the XFX GTX 285 for $349. Thank heavens for Ebay, If it wasn't for them I'd still be using a STB Velocity 128. :o :D

Yeah, not a big upgrade at all, but there was a method to my madness. If I had waited to sell the GTX 260 later when all the new 40nm beasties show-up, I would have likely only gotten half of what I got now for it. Also now that I have the XFX card with the Double-Lifetime Warranty, when I sell the card, I'll be able to give the Buyer a Full Lifetime Warranty because the XFX warranty is also transferable. Makes huge difference when selling a card and puts more money in my pocket that I can use for the next purchase.

Congrats and an exceptional deal Chris. Looks like you were in the right place at the right time. Maybe if you're lucky he'll get a Gigabit switch that he can't get to work. :D

man i wish i could sell stuff on ebay. since i do have some things to sell. like the 2 logitech mice that are still brand new in the box with extra parts. 2 hitachi 21" crt and some used mid tower cases. but since i do not know how to and that i hear that ebay and paypal take more then they use to out. it won't make me any extra cash to sell so i could add it together to get me a new gfx card. like what HJ just got in. which is what i want but in a EVGA brand though. since i would keep that card till i would need a new mobo in order to upgrade it lol... congrates on the cards you 2

Finally installed the gigabit 8 port Trendnet switch that I got Thursday (I hate it when New Egg ships from the east cost :( ) and this sure runs nice now. I have never seen the LAN LED's on the back of this KN9 SLI with that orange color, it's always been green, so now I have gigabit thru to the modem. Nice! Gonna have to play some ET:QW and see if there's any difference. Should be, but that game always has played very smooth anyways. Chris.

Chris make sure to tweak your nic so it will run at giga speeds all the time. instead of auto negotiate which is default setting. ain't it nice to be able to transfer stuff via net working now? when your doing large file between them it is a lot faster then it was before, i know it did for me.

Congrats Chris. Compared to you, my lowly DSL connection is like Dial-up. :D

I know what you're saying about Newegg as well. I still get delivery for items pretty fast in NC, sometimes in 2-3 days. I use to live in NJ a little over two years ago and Newegg has a warehouse there. I would on ocassion get things in day. :o

Didn't realize the AX-78 has Gigabit LAN as well, all these orange LED's glowing in the back on the LAN ports. You're right, Scavy, file transfers are like "Snap!" Just to see how good it is, I transferred the new Nvidia driver from rig #1 to rig #5, it was done before I could look from screen to screen! Wow! Not a huge file but still. Nice. Chris.
