I hate games with checkpoints, tho, and there wasn't one single checkpoint in the whole demo! It was a good 35 minutes the second (or was it third?) time thru. Still gave me the creeps. Wish it was out for pre order thru Steam. I could get it a lot of other places, tho. Chris.
Chris, I usually can't stand Checkpoints either, but some games aren't too bad if they're well placed. I didn't mind them at all in Turok for example. I counted two checkpoints in the Fear 2 demo though, the demo just doesn't save them unfortunately. The first checkpoint was when you first came out from under the school to the bus station, and the second was when you get the big armored robo-suit. When I got to the first one, I exited the game and when I went back to it, that's how I found out they weren't saving.
You're right though about it being creepy. It has the same creep-out factor as the movie "The Ring", same creepy little girl too.

Great game and I'll be looking on EBay for used copies after it comes out.
I'm also giving Fallout 3 another chance. Going to play it a bit differently this time though. Like you, I'm really not a RPG kinda guy, but I was just thinking today that I probably made the game harder on myself than it actually had to be. Every person I met in the game, I asked them every question in the list of things available to ask. If you're in town, forget about it, you could just talk for hours to
people.

Anyway, what I could have done was just ask one question or maybe two and then just said see you later most of the time. So I'm betting if I don't play Columbo and Act more than Talk, I'll make a "Shooter" out of this game yet.
