AX78 problem

Postby soheilsh » Thu Apr 16, 2009 6:46 pm

I have some problems with ABIT-AX78 mainboard that are listed below.

* Revealing high temperature for CPU

*Always the light of NUMLOCK led on keyboard is on.

* When the PC is off, the led of NET-CARD is off then. So, it could not be realizedthat for example which PC-system is plugged to the switch hub.

As shown in the fig below, full tasked CPU depicts 67 degree but in "GIGABYTE-M56 S-S3" mainboard, it is 56 degree

The idle state of GIGABYTE and ABIT mainboards are shown in the fig below, at this condition ABIT depicts 51 degree and GIGABYTE depicts 40 degree for the same CPU by the same Cooling fan system.

Another Problem is not turning off NUMLOCK LED light on keyboard show below

The other problem that I am dealing with by this mainboard if turning off the NET-CARD LED after reseting the PC from Windows O.S.. As I know, this problem does not exist with with any mainboards. In next figs, you can see there are 4 off-PC connected to the switch hub while three leds'light are on but mine that is on port No.4 is off.

I have also had such these problems with the other ABIT mainboar "KN9S". After I reported these problem to the Support division of ABIT Co. they offered me a newrer version of BIOS firmware that solved this problems on KN9S mainboard.

I would appreciate you and be so grateful if you refer my problems to the Support division of ABIT Co.

The latest BIOS for your board is m706a13.zip Found here Dated 05/23/08. That may or may not help your situation. DO NOT FLASH THE BIOS THROUGH WINDOWS
Does the numlock light turn off when the numlock key is pressed. Numlock can be turned on or off in the Bios settings so that it is on or off at boot.

Everyone here is a volunteer, NO one is this forum is associated with ABIT. The company is all but out of business, they quiit making boards last year.

As for your questions about the differences in temperature readings between the AX78 and the Gigabyte board, you never answered the questions we asked in your other Thread. So we don't have any new answers for you regarding that problem.

For the LAN to be active when the PC is turned off, you have to set the BIOS to "Wake Up by Onboard LAN". Look in the Power Management section, set it to "Enabled".

Try a different keyboard to see if the problem is the mainboard or the keyboard. Chris.

When you flashed the motherboard, did you clear the BIOS using the onboard CMOS jumper?

Is this Keyboard USB?
This may be one of the boards that failed to stop sending power to the back USB ports. But I thought it was just 2 of the back ports.

Does this board have jumpers to keep power to the lan port at all time? Check the board for LAN POWER jumper.

Clearing the Bios prior to a flash removes any OCing.
But you need to clear the Bios after a flash also.

Could it actually be going into standby?

If the power is actually going off, try placing the Network cable into a different port on the router.

I thought there was a Beta v.14 BIOS for this board? Maybe it's still around somewhere?

I checked one of my AX78's this morning, and even with the Wake Up By Onboard LAN enabled, the LAN port does power off when the PC is off. All of my AX78's have BIOS v.13, tho. And none of them have a problem with the NUMLOCK key, it turns on and off when the key is pressed.

Yes, Grey Bear did mean that you have to Clear CMOS after you flash the BIOS. But once you clear the CMOS, you must go into the BIOS and set the RAM timings and voltages again. Here is a guide that I wrote: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=259 Chris.
